Summary
Sunoco LP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Accountant to join our dynamic accounting team. This role requires a strong technical accounting background, expertise in GAAP, and significant experience in international consolidation, acquisition purchase price accounting, and integration. The Lead Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and will be instrumental in managing complex accounting projects related to mergers and acquisitions and technical accounting.
Essential duties and responsibilities
1. Technical GAAP Accounting:
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in all financial reporting.
- Provide guidance on complex technical accounting issues and new accounting standards.
- Conduct regular assessments and updates of accounting policies and procedures.
2. International Consolidation:
- Oversee the consolidation of financial statements for multiple international entities.
- Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international accounting standards and regulations.
- Coordinate with international accounting teams to gather and analyze financial data.
- Assist with reporting and consolidation enhancements of ancillary ERP accounting systems
3. Acquisition Purchase Price Accounting and Integration:
- Lead the accounting workstream leads for acquisitions, including purchase price allocations (PPA).
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate acquired entities into the company's financial systems and processes.
- Analyze and document the financial impact of acquisitions on consolidated financial statements.
- Monitor and report on post-acquisition performance and related financial metrics.
4. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and key drivers impacting business performance.
5. Ad Hoc Projects:
- Lead and participate in special accounting and finance projects as required by Sunoco LP Accounting
- Analyze and provide recommendations for process improvements and best practices.
- Collaborate with various departments to support strategic initiatives and business objectives.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support decision-making processes.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of related experience.
- Prior fuel inventory and general ledger accounting experience preferred
- Strong experience in SAP S/4 FIORI/Winshuttle.
- Experience working with Right Angle preferred
- IFRS and US GAAP preferred
- Strong analytic and data analysis skills required, especially MS Excel.
- Must display good judgment and be able to work independently, as needed.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Must be flexible, adaptable and have a high level of initiative.
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
- The Accountant/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
- The Senior Accountant/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience
- The Lead Accountant/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job related experience
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
