SUPERVISOR: Associate Dean of Health
BASIC FUNCTION: Part time contract with additional supplemental days during the summer term. Responsible for the oversight of all MLS and MLS-related programs. This includes the direct administration of the MLS CEU’s.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required – Master’s degree with a major in MLS, or proof of current progress toward a Master’s Degree. Two years of experience in the clinical setting. Meets all guidelines specified in Iowa Code. Licensed to practice MLS in the State of Iowa. Basic computer skills.
Preferred – Bilingual in English and Spanish languages. Doctorate in relevant field. Higher education academic administrative experience.
Copies of all academic transcripts are required. Unofficial copies are acceptable at the time of application. Upon receipt of a conditional offer of employment, a complete set of original transcripts will be required.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS: 1. Ability to direct and supervise faculty and staff. 2. Possess the ability to organize, develop and implement curriculum. 3. Understanding of, and agreement with, the philosophy, conceptual framework and learning outcomes of all MLS programs. 4. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Recommend the hiring, retention, orientation, professional development, discipline and/or dismissal of all MLS faculty (instructors and clinicians, credit and non-credit) or other MLS staff. 2. Work with all MLS faculty to monitor Quality Faculty Plan progress, identifying professional development opportunities, and conducting formal performance evaluations on an annual basis. 3. Operate within the parameters of current collective bargaining agreements. 4. Hold MLS departmental meetings to keep faculty informed and to conduct business. 5. Recommend MLS class schedules, teaching loads, and room utilization schedules. 6. Monitor enrollments and implement recruitment and retention programs within MLS. 7. Conduct academic program evaluations with faculty as required by the academic program review protocol. 8. Implement and monitor the outcomes assessment program of the college through development of learning outcomes, appropriate strategies, and feedback to evaluate student learning and ensure academic excellence and integrity of all MLS programs. 9. Coordinate with the Healthcare Clinical Coordinator to interview, hire, and evaluate MLS clinical instructors; arrange contracts for use of clinical facilities; conduct annual evaluations of clinical sites; coordinate students in clinical areas. 10. Oversee the MLS preceptors and preceptor sites with area health care agencies. 11. Develop and expand articulation and/or cooperative agreements with secondary institutions, post-secondary institutions, business, and industry. 12. Cooperate with Student Services personnel in support of student recruitment, guidance, placement, and student follow-up; facilitate promotional and recruitment activities for the MLS programs (e.g., career fairs, program recruitment letters). 13. Establish and maintain ongoing partnerships with area health care agencies. 14. Assure the functioning of an effective MLS program advisory committee, making sure to schedule and conduct MLS program advisory committee meetings at least twice a year, more if needed. 15. Recommend and administer MLS program budgets; facilitate the selection of instructional supplies and equipment. 16. Review and update MLS student handbooks annually in cooperation with faculty. 17. Provide appropriate student and staff orientation activities for MLS programs. 18. Coordinate the collection of necessary materials for college catalog revisions. 19. Maintain Iowa Board of MLS approval; complete and submit all required Iowa Board of MLS reports. 20. Secure substitute instructors in MLS courses, as needed. 21. Evaluate and revise MLS program curricula, as necessary. 22. Review all course syllabi and textbooks annually with MLS faculty. 23. Coordinate peer review evaluations for MLS faculty. 24. Participates in the evaluation of MLS students, as needed. 25. Instruct classroom and clinical MLS courses. 26. Assist in coordinating the work for MLS CEUs.
AS DIRECTED AND GENERAL: 1. Work with the Dean, and represent NCC to the community as directed. 2. Serve on the health care sector board as directed. 3. Research, propose, and develop new MLS programs or offerings as directed. 4. Work with MLS program faculty to acquire and maintain program accreditation(s) as directed. 5. Perform directed role in student grievance procedures. 6. Participate in student grievance procedures as directed. 7. Attend scheduled college staff meetings. 8. Participate in the long and short range planning of the college. 9. Serve on and provide leadership to college committees as appropriate. 10. Identify and recommend actions for process improvements. 11. Actively participate in state and national organizations as appropriate to division programs and/or college initiatives. 12. Maintain division standards consistent with NCC Board policy, the Department of Education, HLC, and other accreditation bodies. 13. Participate in appropriate quality faculty plan and staff development activities. 14. Prepare reports for the administration, and federal, state, and local agencies as required. 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
