Position Summary
The Coordinator for Student Basic Needs ( CSBN or Coordinator) serves as an integral member of the Dean of Students ( DOS) team specifically in the areas of both the Basic Needs and Student Care and Case Management. This position serves a crucial role in design, delivery, and assessment of campus programs and services connected to the DOS basic needs initiatives. Additionally, this position serves in a case management role appropriately supporting students experiencing a wide range of personal and academic challenges as they navigate their Carolina experience.

One area of focus includes but is not limited to coordination and operations for the Carolina Food Pantry Network ( CFPN) and collaborations with other similar campuses and community pantry supports. More specifically, the CSBN individually and collaboratively designs and delivers outreach events and educational programming, drives the development, collection, and reporting of relevant data, coordinates logistics and needs with various campus pantry leads, and advises the Dean of Students and the Assistant Dean of Students for Basic Needs and Student Support on the needs, trends, and strategic development of the Carolina Food Pantry Network and the basic needs initiatives more broadly.

The CSBN also provides highly individualized, holistic care and support for UNC students and facilitates knowledge of and access to campus and community resources, as well as wraparound follow-up. This highly collaborative position communicates (verbally and in writing) with varied audiences and is assigned departments, organizations, or constituencies to serve as the primary, initial liaison to triage student concerns, as well as implement outreach, programs, and services that align with the efforts of the Student Support and Case Management team. Additionally, the position contributes to the design, collection, and interpretation of data collected throughout the lifecycle of a student's engagement with the office leveraging the data to inform operational recommendations, as well as solutions/strategies that support student learning, success, and retention. The successful candidate may represent DOS during high-interest events and outreach efforts, and serve on university, Student Affairs, and/or department committees. The CSBN contributes to the daily functioning of and support for the Dean of Students office operations, programs, and initiatives, including maintenance of print/electronic materials, triage of telephone calls and walk-in concerns, and meeting business and finance expectations.

This position reports primarily in-person and for the purposes of Title IX and Clery, the CSBN is a Responsible Employee and a Campus Security Authority.
