The PCS ACNE is a strategic, visionary nursing leader responsible for advancing nursing practice and elevating patient care across all settings at UC Davis Health (UCDH). As a key member of the Executive Nursing Leadership team, the PCS ACNE collaborates closely with multidisciplinary partners to strengthen professional nursing practice, optimize clinical operations, care coordination, and drive quality and safety outcomes across the health system. This includes creating a nursing environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in clinical care, education, and research is promoted and achieved.

The ACNE provides operational oversight of inpatient nursing services for the UC Davis Health departments by assisting the Chief Nursing and Patient Care Services Executive (CNE) in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and evaluating hospital wide nursing/patient care services, including nursing practice standards and policies, staffing, strategic planning, organizational and staff development, maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations; provides highly responsible administrative support to the CNE; acts on behalf of the CNE in his/her absence. The ACNE has accountability for enhancing clinical practice environments; encouraging patient centered, unsurpassed clinical quality and patient safety while also providing significant contributions to education and research. They provide round-the-clock leadership and management in the areas of customer satisfaction, provision of safe and effective care, finance, human resources, communication, patient/staff advocacy, performance improvement and leadership and professional development.

Under the direction of the CNE, the PCS ACNE ensures that nursing care delivery consistently meets or exceeds all quality, regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards. The leader fosters an environment grounded in continuous quality improvement, evidence-based practice, accountability, and innovation-mobilizing teams and stakeholders to achieve excellence in patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

This position provides executive oversight for several inpatient service lines and key clinical programs. Inpatient units under this role include the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Acute Care Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Obstetric Emergency Department, and the Newborn Nursery. The PCS ACNE also oversees essential programs such as Child Life Services, Obstetrics and Pediatric Outreach Programs, the U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospital initiatives, and the Children's Surgery Verification Program.

In addition to inpatient and program leadership, this position holds significant systemwide responsibilities. These include management of the American Hospital Association (AHA) survey and oversight of the Center for Professional Practice in Nursing (CPPN), which coordinates nursing education and facilitates system-level programs such as Mandatory Annual Training. Through these responsibilities, the PCS ACNE advances nursing education, supports competency development, and ensures readiness for regulatory and accreditation activities across multidisciplinary services within UCDH.
