Job Summary

This system engineering position involves designing, implementing, and supporting back-end server-based application infrastructure to support Health System operations. This senior technical role requires advanced expertise in system engineering and administration, specifically with Microsoft server-based technologies running on both physical and virtual machines. These systems operate within a large, complex environment spanning across multiple datacenters and cloud platforms.

The incumbent shall serve as the subject matter expert with responsibilities that includes, but not limited to, Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Entra ID and Azure. This incumbent shall possess the ability to interpret and translate business and technical requirements at both strategic and tactical levels to support the deployment of servers, configuration of operating systems, deploying security patches, and installation of software within a rapidly growing, mission-critical, and increasingly complex environment. The incumbent must demonstrate advanced expertise in other computing domains, including virtualization, identity and access management, and server operations within a clinical and non-clinical environment. Furthermore, the incumbent shall provide recommendations concerning security, vulnerabilities issues, and workflows that will help improve operational efficiency, system reliability, risk mitigation, and reduce total cost of ownership throughout the system lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Information Technology.
  • Expert in Directory Services with the focus on Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Administration, Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS), Group Policy management, and Entra ID.
  • Expert in designing, implementing and supporting Directory Services implementations.
  • Expert in designing, implementing and supporting PKI implementations.
  • Extensive experience with Server technologies including Windows Server and VMWare.
  • Extensive experience with engineering and implementing AD security standards.
  • Expert knowledge in server operation, server management, and patch management.
  • Experience with scripting and automation, preferably PowerShell and PowerCLI.
  • Understanding of the OSI model.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed fashion, interacting effectively with senior UCDH staff, faculty, and technical personnel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issue effectively.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure of deadlines and critical circumstances.
  • Always displays a courteous and professional attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in Healthcare IT.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows operating systems security and support (all versions).
  • Experience with Okta, BeyondTrust, or similar identity platform.
  • Experience with managing M365, Azure and AWS services.
  • Experience with HPE hardware including chassis, blade, rack mount servers and other HPE components.
  • Experience with Okta.
  • Experience with project management practice and methodologies.
  • Experience with Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop, AWS workspace/Appstream

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
