Job Summary
This junior level system administrator position supports the day-to-day operations of the Enterprise Compute team. The incumbent is responsible for routine maintenance, monitoring, and operational support of servers within a large, complex infrastructure spanning multiple data centers and cloud environments. Key responsibilities include performing administrative and computing tasks such as user account management, server deployment and configuration, software and security update installation, compute resource provisioning, and responding to service requests and support tickets. The role also involves assisting in the troubleshooting of applications, physical and virtual servers, and other server hardware components, as well as conducting daily health checks to ensure critical system and services are up and running. Additionally, the incumbent will provide general support for server operations and contribute to ongoing efforts to maintain system stability, reliability, and performance. - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in Information Technology or equivalent field
- Solid understanding of Microsoft and VMware technologies.
- Basic knowledge of Active Directory
- Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual machines.
- Experience with system monitoring tools and techniques.
- Knowledge and experience with server operations, patch management, and system management.
- Experience with automation and scripting techniques.
- Basic understanding of other core infrastructure technologies (e.g., networking, storage, database, cloud platforms).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work in a self-directed fashion, interacting effectively with senior UCDH staff, faculty, and technical personnel.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
- Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure of deadlines and critical circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry technical certifications, such as RHCSA,RHCE, VCP, Comptia, AWS or any Microsoft Certification.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems security and support across all major versions.
- Experience with Windows Active Directory, including user and group administration.
- Experience with using Ansible for automation and configuration management.
- Experience in administering VMware environments, including virtual machine provisioning and maintenance.
- Familiarity with managing HPE hardware platforms, including chassis, blade servers, rack-mounted servers, and related components.
- Basic understanding of Citrix, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
