Salary: The previously determined salary range for this position was $58,000 to $64,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Position Summary
This position will support research projects devoted to the research of Dr. Tamara Hamlish, including The Young and A Survivor (YAAS!): Network for Health Among Young Breast Cancer Survivors is a CDC-funded collaborative to expand availability and access to supportive services for young breast cancer survivors, young women with metastatic breast cancer, and their families and caregivers. This position assists the Research Scientist/Principal Investigator with planning and implementing community outreach and media engagement, leads research project recruitment efforts, supports data collection and data management, disseminates culturally and linguistically relevant project findings, and writes progress reports to the funding agency and various stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or uses other methods according to established research protocols.
  • Prepare data for analysis and execute details of studies. Perform analysis and document results.
  • May conduct literature searches.
  • Order study supplies and maintain inventories.
  • Maintain detailed records of results and prepare written reports.
  • Maintain and process required paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • 1) Participates in specialized community-based research in collaboration with the research team.
  • 2) Oversees project and grant deliverables
  • 3) Trains and supervises research assistants/project team members.
  • 4) Adheres to research aims to achieve sponsor objectives
  • 5) Collects and summarizes data and information and report findings to Scientists/Principal Investigators, research staff, and community partners.
  • 6) Assist with scientific reports and summarizing research findings for papers, presentations, and other documents.
  • 7) Develops and maintains research records, track community activities, and compile list of resources for community members
  • 8) Identify and establish good working relationships with peers at other research sites, university departments, and appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives, and function as a liaison for the research project teams.
  • 9) Supporting specials events and activities led by the research team and its partners.
  • 10) Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • 11) Manage and oversee the implementation of the community engagement strategy
  • 12) Manage and oversee data collection and data evaluation. Analyze and interpret data.
  • 13) Prepares and organizes results and contributes to preparation of papers, grants, and grant reports and other documents based on project results.
  • 14) Oversees and participates in sustaining YAAS! network of academic and community partnerships.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required.
    • Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
    • Entry level knowledge of research methods.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience using social media for community outreach and engagement strongly preferred (e.g., Facebook and Facebook live, Instagram, YouTube, podcasts, blogs, newsletters, etc.)
    • Experience in community health, community-based research, or cancer patient advocacy; demonstrated experience building and sustaining community partnerships, including cancer patient advocacy and support organizations/agencies, as well as community-based healthcare providers required.
    • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, team-oriented, and work closely with multiple stakeholders.
    • Possess analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
    • The successful candidate will be a self-directed, adaptive independent thinker with program-solving abilities and a high level of interpersonal skills and professionalism.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Spanish language proficiency preferred
