Overview
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Utah State University is seeking applications for a full-time academic year Professional Practice Assistant/Associate Professor (non-tenure track). Applicants are expected to have high-level experience in various aspects of engineering and design as it is best practiced in an industrial/commercial setting. Ideal candidates have had a successful career in industry and are highly motivated to bring those experiences into the classroom and learning laboratories. Professional Practice Professor primary responsibilities are teaching courses in the Electrical and Computer Engineering programs. Professional Practice Professors engage in other responsibilities that contribute to the department including advising students about career opportunities, mentoring students on design projects, recruiting activities designed to grow department programs, curriculum development, and committee service.

Applicants must have at least a MS degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent work experience. Applicants must have significant practical experience in engineering design methodologies with a broad range of knowledge in electrical and computer engineering topics. Appointment rank will depend on professional experience in engineering design applied to electrical and computer systems.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing curricula for courses and course sequences in topics related to electrical and computer engineering.
  • Teaching courses in the Electrical and Computer Engineering programs.
  • Creating and teaching curricula for the pipeline of courses leading to the senior design experience including design methodology, technical communications, ethics and professionalism, project management, and social impact of engineering design.
  • Actively participating in assigned committees including curriculum and ABET accreditation committees.
  • Participation in outreach and recruiting activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the department head.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong industrial/commercial or research experience in design and analysis of electrical and computer systems.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Priority will be given to candidates who have:
  • Effective teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
