Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Safety Supervisor for the Rutgers University Police Department (
RUPD).Under the supervision of the Investigations Unit Commander, this position provides technical, analytical, and administrative support to the investigations division in a supervisory role though technological innovations as it relates to crime prevention and evidence and property management.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides technical oversight and supervision to the surveillance camera checks and reviews completed by division personnel to increase functionality and to provide direction and focus to the personnel proactively monitoring the surveillance systems.
- This position acts as the campus' Evidence Manager responsible for the maintenance, receipt, inspection, documentation, storage, and preservation of all evidence collected by the Rutgers Police Department.
- Responsible for the appropriate maintenance, documentation, storage and return of lost and found property.
- Assists the Records Division and Investigation Division with digital evidence utilized for discovery requests, OPRA requests and investigations.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years of related experience that demonstrates proficiency in technical, analytical, and administrative support in a public safety setting.

- Thorough knowledge of general investigative practices, safety and security principles, and the requirements for conducting effective field operations.
- Must maintain confidentiality of police records, prepare and maintain accurate police record and reports, and prepare clear and concise reports in the execution of assigned duties.
- Must have prior experience with responsibilities related to evidence and property management within a law enforcement agency.
- Must possess honesty and integrity to render credible testimony in a court of law as it pertains to the proper procedure of collecting and storing evidence and property.

- Previous experience with evidence and property management and surveillance systems is preferred.
- Experience with managing digital evidence and video redactions is preferred.

- Will be required to complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving program.
- Will be required to attend a certified course in managing property and evidence collection.
