POSITION TITLE: Child Watch Lead

DEPARTMENT: Kroc Center Hawaii - Member Services

SUPERVISOR: Member Services Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly Pay $15 - $15.50

POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Watch Lead's primary function is to oversee staff, volunteers, and both large and small groups of children ages 6 months to 11 years old in short-term childcare while parents or guardians are utilizing The Salvation Army Kroc Center. The Child Watch Lead will be responsible for receiving payment of child watch services by cash, check, credit card or debit card through a Point of Sales (POS) system, providing information, and answering questions.

The Child Watch Lead will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have at least two years of successful experience working with children.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience supervising staff
  • Must be computer literate with proficient typing skills and the ability to use new software programs with basic training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with guests, members, and staff.
  • Ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers.
  • TB clearance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Experience with a Point of Sales (POS) system preferred.
  • Preferred classwork in childhood development or related field.
  • CPS/ First Aide/ AED certified at the time of hire or ability to be certified with in 30 days after hire date.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Provide a safe, supervised and developmentally appropriate play environment for the children of members and guests of the Kroc Center Hawaii.


  • Meet and greet all members, guests, staff and volunteers with a smile and hello. Make eye contact, use member's, guest's or child's name whenever possible and ensure questions about programs and procedures are answered.
  • Oversee and resolve member and guest complaints by obtaining and evaluating all relevant data. Follow up with members and guests to ensure high-level satisfaction. Communicate guest complaints to the Child Watch Lead and/or Member Services Manager if further action is needed.
  • Lead, organize, and participate in children's play activities such as craft activities, creative play, board games, puzzles, etc.
  • Use positive behavioral methods to encourage independence and responsibility. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently and coach others to do the same.
  • Facilitate check-in/out procedures according to protocol, ensure proper identification of the adult designated to pick up the child, and maintain accurate rosters/ logs
  • Help children overcome issues of separation from their parents or guardians.
  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. Be sensitive to children's individual needs. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages and abilities.
  • Facilitate check-in and check-out procedures according to protocol, ensure proper identification of the adult designated to pick up the child and maintain accurate rosters/logs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member and guest personal information.
  • Receive payment by cash, check, credit card or debit card for Child Watch services. Compute and record totals of transactions; issue receipts, credits or change due to guests or members utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) kiosk system. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure the amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are sanitized and in good condition, removing any items that become broken or unsafe. Communicate with the Child Watch Lead or Member Services Coordinator to address maintenance-related issues.
  • Worked with the Member Services Coordinator to track and predict child levels to adequately plan and prepare weekly schedules. Ensure appropriate child-to-staff ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants or staff. Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.
  • Oversee, train, and develop staff and volunteers in the Child Watch area to comply with The Salvation Army and Child Watch policies and procedures.
  • Provide back-up support for the Front Desk.
  • Report any suspected abuse or lack of adherence to Child Watch policy to the Member Services Manager.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to the Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Available to work a flexible schedule that includes working on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

Candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program

Candidate must hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within a reasonable amount of time after hire date.
