Recovery Coach - Per Diem

The Recovery Coach assists participants in achieving and sustaining recovery, facilitates access to recovery-oriented systems of care, and bridges across fragmented treatment systems into a more holistic care model. They serve as motivator, ally, role model, and advocate, providing individualized and person-centered support without judgment, expectation, or requirements.
This is a per diem role with variable hours based on program needs. Candidates must be able to travel between MGH's main campus, outpatient sites, and community-based programs as assigned.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
*Provide peer recovery support services to participants referred from any MGH addiction medicine program or site.
*Float flexibly between inpatient, outpatient, adolescent, perinatal, ED, and community-based programs as coverage needs arise.
*Serve as liaison between the recovery community, the treatment system, the medical system, and the participant's community supports.
*Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address barriers to self-defined recovery.
*Conduct active outreach and engagement, including in community and health center settings.
*Support navigation of healthcare and social service systems; accompany participants to appointments as needed.
*Educate participants on harm reduction, multiple recovery pathways, and safe use practices.
*Offer peer coaching, motivational support, and help participants identify and pursue individualized recovery and wellness goals.
*Document encounters in the participant's medical record and communicate effectively with the care team.
*Participate in supervision, quality assurance activities, and team meetings as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials:

  • CARC (Certified Addiction Recovery Coach) required within 18 months of hire.
  • Completion of Recovery Coach Academy prior to hire, or within 4 months of hire.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of sustained recovery at time of hire (3-5 years preferred).
  • Experience working with people with substance use disorders 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of recovery-oriented community resources and services.
* Familiarity with harm reduction, multiple pathways to recovery, and evidence-based approaches including medication for addiction treatment.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
* Ability to travel between MGH main campus, community health centers, and other program locations as needed.
* Flexibility, adaptability, and strong time management skills.
* Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients/families and staff, following principles of professional boundaries.
- Excellent problem-solving skills both one-on-one and in group situations.
- Proficient in the use of office equipment and the computer Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain written records and reports.
