The Opportunity

We are seeking a Specialist, Business Development (Litigation) to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). In this role you will collaborate with the Assistant Director, Litigation to drive business growth and enhance market presence by nurturing existing client relationships and strategically acquiring new ones. You will facilitate seamless coordination and execution of business development initiatives, supported by various functional teams, including Marketing, Communications, Events, and Strategic Intelligence. Collaborating closely with the global Business Development team to ensure the highest level of market engagement and client service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Client Targeting and Client Growth:

  • Supports the BD team in the identification of new targets and the execution of various activities that enable partners to build new and existing relationships, including the coordination of meetings and events, pitches and proposals, thought leadership marketing, among others.
  • Helps with the execution of cross-selling initiatives, including industry groups and client teams.
  • Leads research and analyses of legal developments and business trends to find new opportunities to engage with clients and contacts.

Proposals:

  • Coordinates RFPs and pitches for new business development opportunities, with support from practice-based pitch team, working closely with relevant partners and the Business Development team.
  • Supports enhancements to pitch templates and content to improve the content and design of the Firm's materials.
  • Helps draft copy to convey Skadden's credentials and competitive advantage.

Marketing Materials:

  • Collaborates with the Experience team to ensure the Firm's experience database is always update to date.
  • Maintains a library of frequently-used documents, including pitch templates, lawyer biographies, and practice area descriptions.

Marketing Activities:

  • Collaborates with the Marketing and global PR teams to raise the Litigation Department's internal and external visibility in key markets through speaking opportunities, public relations, and social media.
  • Researches profile-raising opportunities for partners, including sponsorships, events, and community organizations.
  • Analyzes contact and attendee lists for email campaigns and events, support follow-up with key contacts, and tracks outcomes and activities in the CRM system.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Regular and reliable physical presence to (ex: work as part of a team, meet with clients, use on-site equipment, etc.)
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Professional demeanor, high emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity and ability to interact effectively with all levels.
  • Strong writing abilities and excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with independence in the role and independently managing the team's functions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Strong technological skills and knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), project management and database applications, with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple processes and projects and delegate effectively.
  • Ability to handle difficult or sensitive situations with poise and diplomacy and to use discretion, exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates an ability to continuously improve and innovate (e.g. regularly improve existing content and design of pitch and proposal materials)
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of the Firm's business
  • Ability to develop relationships and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Ability to learn new software, systems, databases, and procedures quickly
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Flexibility to travel and attend key events and meetings on occasion
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years directly related experience in a law firm or professional services environment

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
