Description
The Servicing Cost Analyst is responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting cost drivers within the mortgage servicing organization. This role supports financial performance by providing visibility into operating expenses, headcount utilization, and process efficiency. The analyst partners with finance, operations, and strategy teams to identify opportunities to optimize costs, improve productivity, and align staffing with business demand. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain detailed cost driver models for major servicing functions (call center, escrow, default, cash management, etc.).
- Analyze operating expenses to identify trends, variances, and drivers impacting financial performance.
- Monitor headcount and staffing levels against budget, workload, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Partner with department leaders to evaluate workforce productivity and recommend staffing adjustments.
- Support the development of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-term servicing cost models.
- Provide actionable insights and reporting to senior leadership on servicing expense performance.
- Create and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and financial reporting tools that track unit costs and efficiency metrics.
- Conduct ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support business cases and strategic initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for process automation, vendor optimization, and expense reduction.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of cost and expense reporting through reconciliation and quality checks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting with minimum GPA of 3.0.
- 5+ years of experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, or business analytics (mortgage servicing or financial services industry preferred).
- Strong understanding of operating expense structures, cost allocations, and workforce management.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience with financial modeling and data visualization tools (e.g., Cube, Power BI).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial insights clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Knowledge of mortgage servicing operations, metrics, and regulatory environment a plus.
