Position Summary

We're looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong operational mindset to take ownership of day-to-day activity on the shop floor. This role is all about execution and improvement - ensuring production stays on track, resolving issues in real time, and turning challenges into structured improvement projects. You'll balance short-term problem-solving with long-term system building, helping us create a factory that not only runs smoothly today but scales effectively tomorrow.

As a key member of our Pilot Factory team in San Jose, CA, you'll collaborate across internal and external engineering groups to meet daily, weekly, and quarterly production goals. This role is ideal for someone energized by hands-on work-someone who thrives in the fast-paced rhythm of the floor, enjoys working side-by-side with technicians, and is passionate about continuous improvement.

Your work will directly contribute to the demonstration of a first-of-its-kind long-duration energy storage technology, helping bring a transformative clean energy solution to life.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own key production processes from initial deployment through maturity, ensuring safe, reliable, and repeatable operation.

  • Lead root cause analyses and implement effective corrective actions that prevent recurrence.

  • Partner closely with technicians, quality, and design engineering to close feedback loops and drive product and process improvements.

  • Identify, scope, and execute improvement projects that eliminate recurring pain points and strengthen production systems.

  • Advance performance in safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency across assigned work centers.

  • Maintain and refine work instructions, tooling, and BOMs to reflect the latest production learnings.

  • Balance immediate operational needs with strategic improvements that prepare the factory for scale.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing operations environment (low-mix, hundreds of units per quarter).

  • Direct experience with large, heavy industrial equipment manufacturing.

  • Strong hands-on presence-comfortable working on the floor and partnering with technicians.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly under pressure.

  • Experience developing and improving processes, tooling, and work instructions.

  • Familiarity with root cause analysis methods (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA).

  • Clear communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).

  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of GD&T and process validation tools (DOE, Gage R&R, SPC).

  • Familiarity with digital manufacturing systems (MES, ERP, PLM).
