Job Summary and Responsibilities

Summary: A Principal RF Engineer is a senior-level engineering professional who designs and develops radio frequency (RF) systems and components. They are responsible for overseeing the development of complex RF systems and ensuring their performance meets project requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • RF System Design: responsible for designing and developing RF systems for a variety of applications, including wireless communications, radar, and satellite communications.
  • Technical Leadership: Will provide technical leadership and guidance to other RF engineers, ensuring that designs meet performance requirements and are delivered on time and within
  • System Integration: Will work closely with other engineers to integrate RF systems with other components, including hardware and software.
  • Test and Evaluation: Will oversee the testing and evaluation of RF systems, ensuring that they meet performance requirements and are reliable and efficient.
  • Troubleshooting: Will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex RF design and testing issues and providing technical support to other engineers and technicians.
  • Documentation: Will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports.

  • Customer Interaction: Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and to provide technical expertise and support throughout the development process.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
  • Experience: At least 10-15 years of experience in RF design, analysis, and testing is required.
  • Technical Skills: strong technical background in RF design, analysis, and testing is requiredas well as proficiency in using software tools such as MATLAB, ADS, and HFSS. Experience with network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other RF test equipment is also important.
  • Leadership Skills: strong leadership skills and experience leading teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Project Management Skills: experience in project management, including defining project scope, developing schedules, and ensuring that project deliverables are met on time and within budget.
  • Communication Skills: excellent communication skillsto work with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and system engineers. Require ability to clearly articulate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: strong problem-solving skills, as the position is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex RF design and testing issues.
  • Attention to Detail: strong attention to detail, as even small design or testing errors can have significant consequences in RF systems.
  • Innovation: have a passion for innovation and keeping up with the latest developments in RF technology.
  • Professional Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) or National Instruments Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) can be a plus, although not always required. Additionally, a RF Principal may be required to have security clearances for certain government or defense-related projects.

Pay Range in the United States: $120K - $191K based upon geography, skills, and experience. May also be eligible for performance incentive opportunity based on company and individual goals and performance.
