SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a full time PPDR Nurse Manager. The role will work days primarily on-site.

The Nurse Manager is a transformational leader that implements the vision, mission, core values and standards of the organization through professional nursing within their area of expertise and responsibility.

The PPDR Nurse Manager manifests a high level of expertise in professional clinical practice, educational design and patient and family education. Provides skillful consultation and facilitation skills that impact processes and outcomes of patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruits, hires, and evaluates staff
  • Exhibits leadership behaviors that support staff to take responsibility, authority, and accountability for decision making related to patient care
  • Develops, maintains and evaluates systems and processes to facilitate the delivery of patient care

  • Monitors and ensures staff understands and complies with organizational standards, competency requirements, policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Establishes and monitors department expense and revenue statistics. Achieves financial targets through effective use of resources and adheres to productivity standards
  • Understands and implements provisions of applicable labor contracts
  • Supports lifelong learning for staff by coaching and encouraging involvement in educational and developmental opportunities
  • Is accountable for supporting and strengthening the professional practice environment
  • Bases decisions and actions on ethical principles
  • Collaborates with nursing staff at all levels, physicians, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders and other stakeholders to achieve outcomes
  • Creates a caring culture that fosters positive, effective nurse- patient -family relationships
  • Supports and develops organizational and department based strategies to create, sustain, and nurture patient and family - centered care (PFCC).
  • Creates an environment that encourages engagement, creativity, and inclusion for employees
  • Establishes an environment that supports the professional nurse in planning, coordinating and evaluating patient care
  • Provides leadership for work redesign and continuous process improvement and coaches all staff to participate in the process
  • Applies LEAN principles to drive waste and variation out of healthcare processes and develops successful implementation of standard work practices
  • Designs and implements sustainability plans for improvement work / projects
  • Maintains commitment to Hennepin Healthcare's Mission, Vision and Values; and assures these are practiced and advanced on the patient care unit
  • Applies appropriate education theory and adult learning principles to education activities
  • Uses appropriate materials and teaching methods to assure delivery of consistent, value-added and reliable content to employees, patients and their families
  • Evaluates education outcomes of training and development activities
  • Serves as a clinical nursing expert and resource to nursing and medical staff
  • Leads interdisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues occurring across the full continuum of care
  • Supports research and evidence based practice and its integrations into nursing and the delivery of healthcare services
  • Develops, maintains, and evaluates information systems and processes that promote desired patient, professional and organizational goals
  • Authors department goals and strategies based upon the annual plan. Measures and monitors activities to assure attainment of established outcomes and innovation
  • Maintains and demonstrates current knowledge in the administration of health care organizations to advance nursing practice and the provision of quality health care services
  • Systematically evaluates the quality, safety and effectiveness of nursing practice, and patient care outcomes
  • Develops, maintains and evaluates department based patient and staff data collection systems and processes to support the practice of nursing and delivery of high quality care
  • Participates in meeting standards for accreditation
  • Evaluates personal performance based on professional practice standards, relevant statues, policies, organizational criteria, and outcomes achievement

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing or related field. If the Master's degree is in a related field, the individual must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Individuals who do not have a Master's degree in either nursing or a related field must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and be actively enrolled in an approved Master's or Doctorate nursing or related field program. Enrollment in the progressive ADN to Master's Degree Program also fulfills this requirement. The Master's or Doctorate degree must be obtained within 5 years of hire as a condition of continued employment
  • Three to five (3 to 5) years of professional leadership experience (i.e., charge nurse, team leader, preceptor, committee chair, etc.)
  • Five (5) years clinical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent acute care/hospital experience
  • Nursing management experience
  • Nursing professional development experience
  • Doctorate in Nursing degree

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Evidence of curricular or program development and presentation skills
  • Evidence of facilitation, presentation and consultation skills
  • Ability to solve problems and work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to work independently, effectively and innovatively
  • Able to word process and familiarity with email computer system, experience with power point or presentation software
  • Project management skills

License/Certifications

  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota
