Smith+Nephew seeks an Operational Technology Co-Op in our global Operations organization to join the Operational Technology team and work on digitization and analytic programs in our Memphis factory campus. This role will allow an enthusiastic individual to contribute to the digital transformation of Smith and Nephew operations, driving improvement in quality, efficiency and technology all with the goal of helping our patients live Life Unlimited. The ideal candidate is curious, persistent, and imaginative, seeking new challenges and maintaining an attitude of constant learning. The candidate is able to work independently, but also in full collaboration with other team members. The position will be based in Memphis TN.

What will you be doing?

You will be working with the Memphis Operational Technology team and our partners in Manufacturing and Quality to digitize our manufacturing operations. You'll be working hands-on, both on the manufacturing floor interacting with processes and systems, and in the lab developing low-code software applications and analytics.

*Responsibilities include collecting and aggregating data from diverse manufacturing work cells, developing low-code applications to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality, evaluating new AI tools for manufacturing analytics, and implementing new technology solutions on the manufacturing floor.

What will you need to be successful?

Education:

  • Enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program for a relevant engineering or IT field (i.e. manufacturing engineering, mechanical / mechatronics engineering, industrial engineering, information technology).

Competencies:

  • Prior experience with an internship/co-op program, or examples of relevant academic project experience is preferred

  • Working understanding coding principles (any language, e.g. C++, Python, etc.) with functional experience in writing code

  • Basic hands-on project experience with mechanical tools and wiring

  • A functional understanding of fundamental engineering principles and techniques including e.g. design for manufacturing, basic manufacturing processes, logical problem solving

  • Fascination with manufacturing technologies and motivation to drive excellence

  • Can work very well with geographically distributed teams and can work with teams from a very diverse background.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
