The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior Operator, Slides Manufacturing in the Slide Assembly Department. The Senior Operator is responsible for using equipment for the assembly and process of tasks to produce, inspect in-process and finished products and package according to established specifications. Adheres to Company Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability policies, procedures, and values to help drive EHS culture. Demonstrates strong technical understanding of the job; viewed as the technical SME. Successfully interprets instructions and specifications and uses to set up equipment. Checks products on assembly line to confirm that they are properly assembled and removes defective products. Notifies supervisor or appropriate personnel of maintenance and/or repairs needed on equipment. Identifies and troubleshoots more involved production issues, performing general equipment maintenance, conditioning, standardization, and calibration as needed. Reports and documents unresolved production problems. Participates in the execution of validation/revalidation protocols.

This position is located in Rochester, NY.

Work Schedule: "Firemen's Rotation": Two 12 hour days (6:00am-6:00pm) followed by two 12 hour nights (6:00pm-6:00am)

The Responsibilities
  • Independently operates a wide range of automated equipment and is able to meet metrics.

  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs, OAC.

  • Identify and suggest process improvements.

  • Train and mentor operators on basic machine adjustments.

  • Maintain accurate records, as well as identify and resolve documentation issues.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead small groups in machine improvement efforts.

  • Perform routine SOP reviews for accuracy.

  • Follow detailed work instructions and job plans for maintenance tasks.

  • Ensure quality and safety best practices are in use within work area.

  • Performs multiple job functions within the Work Center and willingly flexes as business needs dictate.

  • Proactively seeks opportunities for self as well as the team.

  • Trains others and participates in knowledge transfer.

The Individual

Required Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or technical certification in maintenance or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 3-6 years of experience in high-speed automated production, packaging, formulation process, and/or related systems.

  • 3-6 years of experience with manufacturing based computer systems, i.e. SAP

  • Ability to mentor others on the use of multiple computer based systems, i.e. SAP, GROW, Windchill, SPIDER, Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to understand and carry out special requests for new product development.

  • Intermediate knowledge of automated equipment processes and interfaces.

  • Intermediate problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, vision, PLC, and robotics systems.

  • Ability to recognize Lockout/Tagout devices and how to interface with them.

  • Ability to lead daily operational meetings and escalate as necessary.

  • Ability to lead small teams on routine complexity tasks, i.e. non-standard clear and sort, rework of product.

  • Strong use of interpersonal skills and mentors others on those skills.

  • Ability to change out wear items on the machine, i.e. belts, dies etc.

  • Possesses intermediate math skills required to perform line clearance and train others on line clearance.

  • Ability to read and execute moderate complexity technical work instructions to perform repairs on equipment.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, or warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time you will be, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The hourly range for this position is $23.00 to $27.00 hourly. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
