ABOUT THE POSITION

With the relaunch of our brand look, feel, and tone of voice in 2023, our marketing creative has worked hard to differentiate Mountain Hardwear and affirm our position as both a tenured yet forward positioned brand - and we need a sharp, driven, experienced copywriter to help us continue to seek our wilder path.

We're looking for a Senior Copywriter who can wordsmith the wild, wise, gritty, optimistic attitude that the brand has been developing since our founding in 1993. This role is closely integrated with our visual creatives / graphic designers, as we believe that words strengthen images and images strengthen words. Having deep knowledge of the outdoor industry, our competitors, and the pursuits that we engineer product for is the expertise we are looking for - along with outrageous clarity and the ability to toggle between high level emotional copy and sharp, technical, benefit-led product copy.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Work directly with the MHW Brand Creative Director to effectively communicate the brand consistently across all channels to define and evolve brand voice and identity according to strategy.

  • Craft each season's messaging framework and all product copy with the highest editorial standard and ensure that it expresses brand emotion and a high level of product technicality.

  • Write accurate and action inspiring email, web, and product copy while crafting overarching stories, themes, and campaigns.

  • Write with an understanding of online promotions, AP Style, and SEO principles to align content with best practices and MHW brand standards.

  • Create seasonal product copy for Product Description Pages (PDP) and merchandising deliverables with ideas and verbiage that improve engagement, conversion, and customer satisfaction.

  • Be responsible for personal management of project timelines ensuring timely delivery of copy.

  • Drive naming of product key styles and proprietary technical platforms - briefing, positioning, ideation, selection.

  • Foster close relationships with MHW Product and Ecomm Teams to thoroughly understand and concisely express each product, its position, reason to believe, and technicality.

  • Organize and deliver copy in content management system (Salsify).

  • Be a watcher and translator of wider culture for the MHW Marketing Team - including but not limited to outdoor culture - to help appropriately root brand messaging within current times.

  • Communicate clearly and kindly, both virtually and in person, with team members, MHW internal 'clients and partners', and external creative partners.

  • Keep updated copy guidelines for brand consistency.

  • Adhere to all departmental guidelines and standard operating procedures.

YOU ARE

  • Passionate, knowledgeable, and confident writing about the outdoors in pursuits like hiking, trail running, climbing, bouldering, snowboarding, and skiing.

  • Interested in technical outdoor style and broader current style culture.

  • A seasoned marketing copywriter with experience creating messaging frameworks that address top of funnel to bottom of funnel marketing.

  • Curious and comfortable asking questions to get it right the first time.

  • Incredibly nuanced, extremely organized, highly motivated wordsmith. Able to self-edit.

  • Successful in directly interacting with and building relationships with internal and external collaborators by being a clear, kind, eloquent communicator.

  • Flexible and able to juggle multiple projects while remaining inspired and positive.

  • Self-motivated and anticipatory. Able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficient in Google Suite and MS Word Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).

YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (i.e. Journalism, Creative Writing, Liberal Arts).

  • Minimum of 5+ years as a copywriter in-agency or in-house, copywriting and concepting (experience copywriting for a consumer-facing brand in a DTC business and/or global brand experience preferred).

  • Strong ability to distill complex ideas into simple, clear, and resonant expressions.

  • Extreme attention to detail and a 'less is more' approach to copywriting.

  • Experience utilizing modern AI tools and prompt engineering to streamline repetitive workflows and scale projects.

  • Proven writing capabilities with a strong grasp of spelling, grammar, and creative expression relevant to brand-specific copywriting.

  • Ability to adapt messaging to the best practices of different channels and devices.

  • Ability to present work and explain the strategic and creative thinking behind the work - and act on feedback to improve messaging effectiveness.

  • Ability to adeptly handle high volume work - fast paced copy needs as well as longer timeline seasonal copy needs.

  • Strong experience writing copy for a consumer-facing brand in a DTC business.
