Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the department of Pharmacology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Postdoctoral Associate will lead experimental research focusing on the regulation of expression and function of blood coagulation factors in a range of (patho) physiologic states. The postdoctoral associate will be focused on identifying the mechanisms regulating the expression and function of blood coagulation factors in (patho) physiologic contexts, including but not limited to acute inflammation, chronic metabolic disease, and pregnancy. The position will involve the generation and characterization of novel transgenic mouse models and application of in vivo and in vitro experimental systems.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Engages in scientific communication, training of junior personnel, grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Will work on generation of disease relevant in vivo and in vitro systems to understand regulation and function of blood coagulation factors in multiple physiologic and disease contexts.
  • Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required. Assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the laboratory.
  • Contributes to the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Maintains accurate records of laboratory notebooks and research activity. Reviews literature and prepare manuscripts and abstracts for submission. Presents findings at national meetings.
  • Mentors graduate/undergraduate students.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • PhD degree required, preferably in the fields of pharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry, or similar life sciences.
  • Candidates in ABD (all but degree) status will also be considered.

  • The ideal candidate is energetic, collegial, detail oriented and organized.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in biochemical and molecular biology methods to study blood coagulation factors in a disease-focused context, preferred.
  • Prior experience with mouse models, primary cell isolation, histopathology, and a background in blood coagulation biology is beneficial, but not required.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements.
  • Work Environment: Lab environment and vivarium with moderate noise and allergens present. Hazardous chemicals are used in the lab.
