Job Title : Licensed Practical Nurse (PDN)

Location : Baltimore, MD 21202

Duration : 3+ Months

Shift: Standard Day Shift

Onsite: Yes

Role & Responsibilities:

  • PDNs function in accordance with the Standards of Practice as delineated in the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.

    The PDN will: Be on site to provide all scheduled cares to assigned students throughout the school day and during approved school-sponsored extra-curricular activities.
  • Document all interventions, maintaining a system for recording clinical notes.
  • Maintain a copy of the current medication and treatment orders of assigned students update OHHS and the school health nurse of any significant changes in a student's health status ensure that medication is stored according to School Health policy immediately report malfunctioning equipment to school health suite staff, parents/guardians, the school principal or designee, and the Contractor, and provide updates as needed apprise the parent(s), and school health suite staff when the student's medical supplies and equipment need replenishing; maintain student confidentiality pertaining to educational and medical records engage school health staff in the assessment of assigned students who are ill at school.
  • Health suite staff will determine if the student should be recommended for dismissal due to illness, or if other emergency procedures need to be implemented remain with individual students requiring intensive medical support the entire time they are in school and at school-sponsored events determined to be medically safe and approved by the parent/Client, the school nurse, and the principal or administrative designee.
  • If the assigned PDN cannot accompany the student during school sponsored extra-curricular activities, another PDN will be assigned by the Contractor to provide care.
  • Collaborate with the school nurse to arrange bathroom break coverage for themselves when assigned to individual students who cannot be medically left unattended report anticipated and unanticipated absences to the Contractor, the teacher(s), the school nurse, and the principal or designee that they will be on leave.
  • If the PDN becomes ill during the school day and need to leave, the agency and the school nurse should be contacted in order to arrange for coverage.
  • Review these guidelines, as well as the Nursing Assessment Form for Students with Special Health Needs, the Emergency Care Plan (ECP), the IHCP, School Emergency Medical Plan and sign the City Schools Private Duty Nurse Attestation form.
  • PDNs will discuss questions/concerns with the agency, school nurse, and the principal or administrative designee, as needed.
  • Parent's receive health care orders from the HCP and submit them to the school's health suite, along with prescribed medications and treatment supplies.
  • The school nurse will inform the PDN of any changes as soon as they are received.

    The health suite nurse is responsible for reviewing all medication and treatment orders for all enrolled students, including those who are eligible for PDN services.
  • The health suite nurse prepares the IHCP.
