Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to work within the Division of Epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to assist with assessing communicable disease practices to support planned updates related to the control of typhoid. This includes assistance to review, compile, summarize and evaluate existing best practices, guidance and other information. This will be accomplished using available existing resources and researching additional information to summarize key findings to support informed programmatic review and assessment. Activities may involve skills such as conducting online research, review and interpretation of literature, reports, and other documents to extract and identify relevant key elements. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting the review findings in paper and electronic presentation format, through visualizations, summaries, and reports, and assisting to provide recommendations to support communicable disease planning efforts related to updating existing requirements pertaining to the control of typhoid.

This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a relevant training program or pursuing a related degree or certificate in a related field.

  • A demonstrated work experience or interest in the areas of communicable disease control and epidemiology.

  • Demonstrated, strong time management skills. (e.g., organization, prioritization, multitasking)

  • Demonstrated, excellent writing and document development skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and practice ethical conduct.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and present information effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work products within established timelines.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in responding to emerging issues and external public health partner concerns.

Conditions of Employment

Hourly, grant funded position expected until approximately 11/28/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
