What We Need:
HNI Workplace Furnishings is searching for a Product Development Engineer 4 to join our Muscatine, Iowa team.
In this role you will be responsible for the performance of advanced and complex engineering tasks and processes providing leadership in the design, development, and improvement of products and/or product components. This role operates with minimal guidance from a manager or mentor and may act as an individual contributor or manager of intern(s), development member(s), or up to three direct reports.

What You Will Do:
  • Ensure performance of advanced and complex engineering functions in the design, development, and improvement of products and/or product components ensuring established quality standards, product specifications and customer requirements are met.
  • Participate in product innovation to improve and enhance product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of business financials, product cost drivers, and financial analysis tools to validate product development and innovation initiatives.
  • Participate actively in the development of product prototype development and testing. Lead teams to identify technical risk and ensure quality performance.
  • Provide innovative insight and recommendations for advanced engineering techniques, tools, and methodologies to enhance product design, manufacturing, quality in the achievement of business initiatives including cost containment.
  • Guide high-performing, cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of product projects, ensuring on cost containment/reduction, quality enhancement, and established timelines.
  • Proactively identify and recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Create and introduce comprehensive and rigorous testing protocols in compliance with product testing standards, trade compliance, and environmental impact initiatives.
  • May manage intern(s), development member(s), or up to three direct reports.
  • May supervise, coordinate, provide leadership and review work of assigned members. Conduct performance evaluations and recommend merit increases, promotions, transfers, corrective actions, and other personnel actions. Interview and recommend candidates for employment. Drive member engagement.
  • Participate in activities as appropriate to ensure the success of the organization.
What You Have:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Individuals with a High School Diploma or equivalent - at least 10 years of Product Development experience required; 14 years preferred.
  • Individuals with Associates Degree in Engineering or related field - at least 10 years of Product Development experience required; 14 years preferred.
  • Individuals with Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field - at least 6 years of Product Development or relevant experience required; 12 years preferred.
