Overview

The Operating General Supervisor is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and construction of the Electric Distribution System. The individual will have Operating Authority of work being performed on the Electric Distribution System.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe, timely, and efficient response to emergencies and the repair and restoration of underground and overhead conductors, services, and associated electrical distribution equipment of varying voltages and configurations in accordance with operating procedures and engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ensure implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for employees to drive employee and public safety and environmental excellence.
  • Qualify and maintain Operating Authority status as per various Procedures, Specifications, and General Instructions Governing Work on System Electrical Equipment (Rule Book).
  • Supervise, dispatch, and coordinate subordinate titled personnel in the repair and restoration of underground high-tension conductors and equipment of the electrical distribution system.
  • Control and document all work related activities on system high-tension feeders by permitting only authorized personnel to sign on and off feeder assignments.
  • Coordinate feeder work as directed by District Operator in conjunction with Feeder Control Representative Manual. Notify all company departments and/or outside agencies as required by procedures during emergency conditions and as needed.
  • Direct and monitor switching intermediate and high-voltage overhead and underground distribution system facilities, using various Control Center monitoring systems.
  • Administer and communicate System Operation, Distribution Engineering, and other Company operating procedures, engineering plans, and specifications to personnel and ensure proper operation, repair, and restoration of underground conductors, devices, and equipment.
  • Prepare reports and update databases associated with conditions requiring action to restore system design basis, such as transformer banks off, open mains, shunts, bridges, and C/D-faults. Oversee personnel creating conditions, layouts, and other resources necessary for follow-up work.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and assign supervisory personnel and their crews to optimize productivity and meet operating and system conditions. Monitor activities of crews in various disciplines working in the field across all watches.

  • Provide additional assistance in trouble work and emergency repairs during storm and heat related activity, including ICS mobilizations.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years Technical work experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years Technical work experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 Years Technical work experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • Work experience including at least 3 years of demonstrated technical experience in Electric Construction or Operations regarding the operation, design, maintenance and restoration of the electric distribution systems. Required
  • Work experience including at least 5 years of demonstrated technical experience in Electric Construction or Operations regarding the operation, design, maintenance and restoration of the electric distribution systems Required
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience managing an operating organization Required
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience Required
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and technical experience in the design, operation, repair, and safe restoration of the electric distribution system Required
  • Must have good computer skills including MS Office Required
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment, demonstrate excellent problem solving abilities, and be able to render sound business decisions. Required
  • Must be able to evaluate, prioritize and respond rapidly to changing conditions on the electrical distribution system Required
  • Must have extensive knowledge of all related safety and environmental procedures. Required
  • Must pass System Operator Selection test Required

  • Must stoop, bend, reach and kneel throughout the workday
  • Must stand to use operate office equipment for entire shift
  • Must be able to read small print and symbols.
  • Must work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within company service territory, as needed.
