Job Family Description

Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field.

Discipline Description

Engineering - Multidiscipline personnel typically own a multidiscipline engineering related work scope. Responsibilities are within the Engineering Function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

This position has technical and quality authority for the acquisition and authorization of hazardous packaging materials used at SRS.

Additionally, this position advises facilities and organizations in the selection and proper use of hazmat packaging. Acquisition of hazmat packaging will support both radioactive and non-radioactive applications required for onsite and offsite movement of material.

This position provides direct support to all SRS operating facilities through the resolution of complex, technical, organizational, and strategic issues in the field of Packaging and Transportation.

This position includes, but is not limited to:

1. Generating, reviewing & managing procurement related tasks (Requisitions, Evaluations, Proposals, Schedules) for various container/packaging types.
2. Authoring technical/quality documents for hazmat packaging acquisition (SPEC Sheets, Closure Instructions)
3. Evaluating technical documents (drawings, procedures, test data) for packaging regulatory and site procedure compliance
4. Ensuring applicable Standards and Federal Regulations are applied effectively to packaging acquisition tasks.
5. Collaborating with packaging vendors on packaging fabrication progress and issue resolution.
6. Using SRS computer applications to process data, files, and records per site procedures.
7. Interact with DOE-SR, DOE-HQ, NNSA, and other external organizations on packaging & transportation matters.
8. Identify and implement improvements in packaging design to resolve complex problems
9. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
10. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers and management.
11. Implement quality requirements consistent with NQA-1 and 10CFR71 Subpart H in the acquisition of hazmat packages, as applicable.
12. Maintain function specific Hazmat Employee Training

Required Qualifications

P1: * Bachelor's degree in an engineering or relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

P2: * Bachelor's degree in an engineering or relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Previous experience in Transportation or Packaging regulatory requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
