Job Description
Quest's Molecular Genetics department is looking for a highly motivated Staff Scientist to be a key driver of priority projects in the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) space. Under the Associate Scientific Director, the Staff Scientist is an expert in the field of cfDNA testing and NGS assay development and has a deep understanding of relevant regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, NYS). This professional will ensure that goals and objectives of the project(s) are accomplished within prescribed time.

Qualifications:
Required Experience:
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or closely related field
- Minimum of 6 - 8 years of industry experience or 2+ years post-doctoral research and 4+ years of industry experience
- Subject matter expert developing cfDNA-based assays, including optimizing plasma separation
- Experience developing, documenting, and validating molecular assays for CLIA lab testing
- Experience working with and optimizing automated molecular workflows
- Strong communication, analytical, and inter-personal skills. Proactive approach to problem-solving
- Deep understanding of regulatory standards and requirements (CLIA, CAP, NYS)
Preferred Experience:
- Advanced technical knowledge of and proficiency in optimizing Illumina based assays
- Hands-on experience with automation platforms (Hamilton, Tecan, Agilent)
- Advanced data analytical and biostatistics skills
- Understanding of standard short-read bioinformatic tools and platforms
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms in the operation of equipment or instruments located in the work environment.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.
- Job duties are performed in a laboratory environment utilizing standard lab equipment.
- Some operations include the use of chemicals which require following safe handling procedures.
- The employee is frequently required to sit and stand; and is occasionally required to walk and stoop.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Work performed in designated areas may require the use of appropriate safety precautions and protective equipment.
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and procedures outlined in the Environmental Health & Safety Manual.

- Knowledge of lab operations
- Ability to work with and coordinate vendors and contracts.
Skills:
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards determined by the department.
