Willdan Energy Solutions (WES) is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of a Senior Project Engineer. Our core services are building commissioning, retro-commissioning, engineering, energy management and environmental sustainability. Our team of dedicated professionals provides a multitude of consulting services to clients in higher education, state agencies, and private institutions to promote reliable equipment operations, environmental sustainability and reduced energy consumption. We hold several term contracts with New York State Agencies, and we have extensive experience providing commissioning services for projects seeking LEED certification.

We have an exciting opportunity for the right individual. The position will be associated with our Kingston, NY office but the responsibilities will be primarily associated with the NYC, Westchester and Hudson Valley region. Willdan has several offices located in these areas and the actual office location would be flexible based on the individual.

We are looking for someone with demonstrated leadership, project management, technical knowledge and experience in providing commissioning, retro-commissioning and energy management services for commercial, governmental and institutional clients. This person should have exceptional communication skills, client facing experience, the ability to handle multiple projects, manage resources and support business development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specific commissioning project responsibilities would include:
    • providing hands-on project management for commissioning, retro-commissioning and energy management projects.
    • design reviews.
    • system troubleshooting.
    • developing testing criteria and performing functional testing.
    • providing support and training for other team members.
  • For retro-commissioning and energy projects this would include coordinating and supporting site visits, identifying and detailing energy conservation or other improvement measures, and evaluating energy savings information generated by other team members.
  • Project team interaction and advocacy - internal and external.
  • Timely completion of required deliverables and responsiveness to internal and external communication and requests.
  • Support business development efforts including proposal development.
  • Management of junior commissioning personnel.
  • Understand project budgets and resource allocations.
  • Support the development of scopes for the participation of MWBE and SDVOB subcontractors and management to achieve the required participation goals.
  • Provide required project leadership and serve as client interface for multiple projects concurrently.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • A college education or equivalent is mandatory. Applicants should have formalized training or education related to HVAC or an applicable engineering discipline with a minimum of ten years' experience in a technical or building operations related field. Specific experience in commissioning and energy audits is preferable.
  • Applicants should have practical experience with HVAC equipment, building operations and systems and possess a strong understanding of MEP systems, with emphasis on HVAC and control systems, as well as troubleshooting of complex systems. Experience with commercial, governmental and institutional clients is preferred. Professional certifications such as CCP, CBCP, LEED AP, and CEM are preferred. Candidates should be willing and able to travel utilizing their own personal vehicle throughout New York State and the adjoining tri-state area. It is estimated that travel to job sites will be required 2 to 3 days per week.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written is also mandatory. Additionally, this position requires the individual to be engaged in multiple projects that are at various stages of design and construction
  • Applicants must be able to clearly demonstrate they have experience in managing multiple tasks across multiple projects
  • Has good interpersonal relations with staff and client communications. Has friendly, helpful and positive attitude. Able to take direction from supervisor and other senior staff.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of software tools, such as spreadsheets, project management programs, and word processing.
