Position Highlights

Arizona Public Media (AZPM) is seeking a Senior Reporter to join our award-winning content creation team in Tucson. The successful candidate will be an accomplished reporter-producer adept at working across media platforms. High-quality work on deadline will be essential in our multimedia environment, as will the ability to collaborate with the internal editorial team and external partners. The assignments of this position will include general assignments and investigative reporting, daily news spots, and longer-form features for broadcast, digital, radio, and podcasts.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research, develop, write, and produce daily, general assignment news stories for public radio, television and digital audiences.
  • Produce high-quality work that is accurate, fair, balanced, and professional.
  • Operate field audio equipment and audio editing systems.
  • Take digital photos for all stories for web posting and think digitally.
  • Meet daily and weekly deadlines.
  • Develop longer feature stories that tell deeper, bigger stories than daily coverage can accommodate.
  • Engage with our online audience throughout the reporting process.
  • Adhere to AZPM's Code of Editorial Ethics and Practices and AZPM's Editorial Standards.
  • Cultivate sources and stories that can lead to podcasts or other long-term projects including radio documentaries.
  • Rework all broadcast stories for posting for online and social media, adding additional audio, data, links, charts, and maps as needed.
  • Substitute/back-up anchor for radio and television newscasts on as-needed basis.
  • Work with television producers to air stories on weekly TV shows.
  • Operate University of Arizona vehicles to travel to conduct interviews and/or capture audio.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
  • Ability to travel to attend meetings, events, and productions.
  • Ability to work in both office and field production environments.
  • Ability to transport talent, guests, and equipment as may be required to support events.
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify compelling stories and community-driven content opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including AZPM production and marketing staff, to fully develop projects.
  • Ability to create and execute multi-platform content strategies, including for television, radio, digital, and social media.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/transport a maximum of 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, media production, communications, or a related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in coordinating technical teams, securing venues, and overseeing production logistics.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.
  • Experience with media production tools, including audio/video editing software and content management systems.
  • Experience producing for multiple platforms (broadcast; radio; digital; social media; podcasts).
