Description
Summary / Position Purpose: The Production Planner is responsible for creating, managing, and optimizing production schedules to ensure the timely and cost-effective distribution of products. This role coordinates with procurement, warehouse, and logistics teams to balance supply with demand, minimize downtime, and ensure on-time delivery to customers. Essential Duties, Functions and/or Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, and production capacity.
- Collaborate with warehouse and manufacturing teams to prioritize work orders and optimize workflow and resource allocation.
- Ensure materials and components are available for production by working closely with the procurement team and monitoring inventory levels.
- Analyze capacity constraints and proactively address potential bottlenecks in production or distribution.
- Adjust production schedules as needed due to supply disruptions, machine downtime, labor shortages, or changes in customer demand.
- Track work order progress and resolve issues that delay or disrupt production or fulfillment.
- Communicate schedule changes and production status to internal teams (e.g., warehouse, shipping, quality assurance, and procurement).
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and production efficiency.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and improved production planning practices.
- Maintain ERP or MRP system data accuracy including work orders, routings, and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Indirectly and directly responsible for product quality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain coordination within a manufacturing and distribution setting.
- Strong understanding of warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics operations.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, just-in-time (JIT), or continuous improvement principles is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. when necessary
