Department of Human Resources

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $73,140.00 annually

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The position is responsible for assigned projects managed by the Finance and Administration Division of the Department of Human Resources (DHR). These projects include but are not limited to the coordination of the Human Resources Board (HRB), management of the drug and alcohol database, time and attendance reports, managing office supply orders, DHR intranet/internet updates, and assistance in the completion of current projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

* Schedules HRB Hearings and Meetings and manages the HRB Calendar.

* Coordinates the logistics for HRB Meetings/Hearings including scheduling and reserving a courtroom, scheduling the court reporter, coordinating subpoenas and discovery, etc.

* Creates HRB agendas and hearing packets, dispenses transcripts, and posts the hearing schedule.

* Reviews and accepts appeal requests, assigns case numbers, facilitates attorney and hearing officer assignments.

* Attends HRB Meetings and takes minutes.

* Reviews and approves HRB related invoices.

* Organizes and manages files and archives documents.

* Monitors the City's drug and alcohol database.

* Provides employee test results for City departments.

* Corresponds with City departments regarding drug and alcohol policy questions.

* Follows up with the City's contracted vendor regarding drug and alcohol testing, policy, and procedure questions.

* Opens, organizes and files mail.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Location: 121 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, IL 60602

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, social sciences, planning, or a related field, supplemented by three years of experience in program administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
