The Systems and Compliance Engineer is responsible for setting and executing the strategy and vision for the Federal refrigerated merchandiser product lines. The individual will design and develop new products and controls sequence to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and have a relentless focus on cost reduction/product improvements to position Federal as best-in-class in our served markets.
What You'll Do
- New product development and value enhancement of refrigerated merchandisers, including overall project management
- Refrigeration system, air flow management and heated subsystem design of self-contained and remote models for all existing and new refrigerated display case models.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, air flow and system controls
- Ensures completion of product development compliance deliverables, including technical and compliance assessment, DFMEA's, design reviews, creation of test plans, compliance documentation and certifications.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable design, performance, lab test results, safety, and energy standards. These include UL471, UL 60335-2-89, NSF7, ASHRAE 72, CSA, DOE, and EPA standards.
- Assist in writing and maintaining UL, NSF, CSA, and DOE file reports.
- May serve as a product compliance interface with domestic and third-party certification agencies
- May represent Federal Industries, with regulatory code development technical committees and standards.
- Assist in production problems and performance issues that arise in manufacturing.
- Assist in resolving field service issues as it pertains to refrigeration system design/ controls and installations.
- Review and analyze data acquisition test results in the Engineering Test Lab and make appropriate design changes to keep the product development process moving forward.
- Assist with display case mechanical design and building of engineering prototypes for testing.
- Specify applicable refrigeration components such as compressors, evaporation, and electronic controls. Work with Purchasing and Inventory Control in the ordering of sample components.
- Manage all control-related projects with internal teams and external suppliers and partners.
- Lead the development of the controls to define and develop products, and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, and implement new generation controls while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, cost, and design.
- Help conduct and introduce new technology, improve productivity, and product development projects to design new products or components or subassemblies to improve the function, reliability, and cost of existing products and components.
- Develop and execute plans to improve product performance and reliability.
- Setting parameters and programming electronic refrigeration controls,
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline. Master's degree preferred
- Progressive refrigeration or air conditioning design experience
- Experience in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) or Digital Engineering tools
- Knowledge of single- or two-phase fluid flow as it relates to the design of air-to-refrigerant evaporators and condensers, as well as the ability to develop simulation models to improve their overall system performance.
- Experience with developing simulation models/ tools, performing design of experiments and computations to shorten the product development cycle and improve product designs for performance and reliability
- Knowledge of the design, performance prediction, and cost analysis process for air-to-refrigerant heat exchangers applied to the method of refrigeration evaporation
- Experience utilizing regulatory standards such as UL, CSA and NSF Standards
