Hunter Hamilton is seeking a Temporary Payroll Manager to support a leading organization in Mableton, GA. This is a hybrid opportunity offering a blend of onsite and remote work. The ideal candidate will bring proven payroll leadership experience and the ability to manage complex, multi-state payroll operations. The assignment is estimated to last through the end of the year, with flexibility to work up to 10-hour days during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Oversee day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring full compliance with state and federal laws and company policies



  • Accurately manage weekly, biweekly, monthly, and special compensation payrolls, including special check issuance



  • Coordinate the production and distribution of all employee tax statements and notifications



  • Maintain and improve payroll systems and records, including time and attendance, funding, earnings, and deduction tracking



  • Provide leadership and direction to payroll staff, including training, workflow planning, and performance evaluation



  • Ensure SOX compliance, payroll system integrity, and policy adherence through regular audits and documentation



  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with HR and Finance teams, including support for mergers and acquisitions



  • Manage payroll-related communications and documentation, ensuring clarity and accuracy across departments



  • Support the development of the annual payroll department budget and continuous process improvements



  • Provide exceptional customer service, responding to payroll inquiries and resolving issues efficiently




What We're Looking For:




  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Payroll or Accounting



  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll processes and compliance, with California-specific expertise preferred



  • Experience using and managing automated payroll and HRIS platforms



  • Ability to lead under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with professionalism



  • Proven skills in data analysis, decision-making, and managing conflicting priorities



  • Advanced communication skills-verbal and written-with the ability to work across all levels of an organization



  • Intermediate or above proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications



  • Demonstrated leadership in driving accuracy, compliance, and efficiency within payroll functions
