People * Customers * Trust

Position Summary: The Scheduler is to work in tandem with the Resource- Customer Service Manager, Production Manager, Fabricating Supervisors, and other key personnel to plan and schedule the locations' machine centers as well as to ensure fabricating machines have work & are timed out appropriately. This also includes helping to decide what date(s), machines in the plant are booked out to, from the outside paper vendor to all machines in converting. Also responsible for ordering paper for the plant.

The Production Scheduler is very crucial to the overall workflow for the plant, from ordering paper to shipping purchase orders. When throughput is maximized for efficient flow throughout the plant, the business will benefit as a result.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. *Pull orders into the "CIMS" system and schedule them effectively to ensure proper workflow throughout the plant. This means knowing when to maximize the width of the machines for getting work through fabricating, depending a lot on constraints such as WIP, floorspace, time, etc.
  2. *Maintaining a balanced workload for the fabricating department. This also applies to the scheduling of sheet trucks to unload.
  3. *Give as much advance notice as possible to orders that may have trouble going through the plant for any reason. Communicating with the proper departments is key.
  4. *Work closely with shipping & our carrier in regards to helping to maximize trailer utilization, and to save cost while doing so.
  5. *Maintain the "Machine Schedule Report" in CIMS, & work with the converting supervisors each day to ensure that the machine schedule report is properly lined up, numbered & ready for the next shift.
  6. Report directly to the Production Manager, & as needed, the Plant Controller & General Manager, in regards to any issues involving the loss of capital (dollar amounts determined by the General Manager).
  7. *Utilize aged WIP report and help to lessen the amount of aged WIP on the plant floor.
  8. *Periodically meet with the Customer Service Manager & Production Manager to ensure that throughput is being utilized, scheduling is being maintained, & current resources.
  9. The Production Planning & Scheduler *must professionally handle himself/herself at all times. The Production Planning & Scheduler must be open-minded & remember that the customer comes first & production numbers & costs are secondary. NOTE: It is important to note that the word "customer" refers to both "internal" and "external" customers.

Decision Making: The Production Planning (Scheduler), do(es), not have the authority to turn down any order. The Production Planning (Scheduler), must go to the Customer Service Manager or the Production Manager if there is an issue that prevents the plant from meeting a customer's request. Upgrades & downgrades for the paper orders must go through the same step also. Scaling back the ordering of sheets or increasing the ordering of sheets must also go through the same steps.

The Planning/Scheduling Department as a whole works better with as much communication as possible when reaching decisions that affect the plant, since most decisions a Production Planning Planner/Scheduler makes affect the entire plant.
