The Inova Schar Cancer Institute is seeking an outstanding candidate to lead our Classical/Benign Hematology Section. This role will be full-time. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible. The leader will be based at our new, state-of-the-art Inova Schar Cancer Center, which is a 340,000 square foot facility offering an award-winning architectural and patient experience environment with all aspects of cancer care included under one roof. This includes a 60-chair infusion unit, a robust clinical research operation, bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy clinics and laboratory, as well as a radiation oncology department with all available modalities, including the only proton radiation facility in Northern Virginia. The Cancer Center is located across the street from the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, a level 1 trauma, 9,60-bed hospital that hosts its own residency and fellowship training programs, including in hematology/oncology, and also trains a third of the medical students from the University of Virginia during their clinical third and fourth years of medical school. Section Chief, Classical Hematology Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and expand a team of classical hematologists within the region's largest cancer clinical program.
- Deliver comprehensive care for patients with non-malignant hematologic diseases across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Develop and lead a clinical research program in classical hematology aligned with existing strengths in solid tumor and malignant hematology research.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated, high-quality care.
- Participate in and contribute to clinical and translational research efforts.
- Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Engage in both academic and community practice settings within a high-performing, non-profit health system.
- Work with a dedicated clinical research office supporting investigator-initiated, NCI-sponsored, and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
Section Chief, Classical Hematology Additional Requirements:
- Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia
- Experience: Successful completion of physician residency program
- Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution
Section Chief, Classical Hematology Preferred Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will be board-certified in Hematology with a strong history of providing excellent patient-centered care, success in enrolling patients on clinical studies, and either previous leadership experience or is ready to lead a hematology program.
