Summary

The Process/Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes by spending lots of time on the production floor studying the current state products & methods and recommending improvements. The Process/Manufacturing Engineer will also manage multiple projects, in varying size, and coordinate the multiple disciplines required to build a timeline and to execute to the project timeline on-time and within budget.

The Process/Manufacturing Engineer is also responsible for product structure and maintenance (BOM and labor routing), engineering change management, process improvements, and cost efficiency improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  2. Develops manufacturing processes by spending lots of time on the production floor studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  3. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, spending time on the production floor to optimize space requirements, and equipment layout.
  4. Understands continuous improvement techniques and is comfortable running kaizen events on the production floor.
  5. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of proprietary, intercompany and OEM product to determine all materials and designs meet SFC manufacturing and sourcing capabilities.
  6. Calculates labor and material costs; conducts time study operations and establishes production standards.
  7. Creates BOM structures based on approved drawings and/or bill of materials.
  8. Inputs proper sequence of labor operations and routes within and between SFC manufacturing departments and outside routings for services.
  9. Coordinates engineering and design changes. Documents and communicates entire change cycle from request to implementation.
  10. Must have a thorough understanding of metal fabrication, powder coating, and shipping processes.
  11. Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Works independently and as part of a team to complete complex projects in a timely manner and within budget constraints.
  12. Other duties may be assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a 2-year technical degree in Engineering.
  • Must have strong computer technical skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365 software suite.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing and plant experience is preferred.
Travel

Up to 10% travel time may be required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Product Development (in-house, soft-ware based MRP), Vault (AutoCAD), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently walk and sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or listen.

The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. (50 pounds is the max)

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, except in the manufacturing environment where PPE may be required.
