Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Editor to join our team. This position is responsible for the editorial review and formatting of client deliverables, ensuring they meet internal quality standards and client-specific requirements. The Technical Editor will also play an integral role in our Technical Editing Resources Group, supporting EA staff across the company through the development of training and informational materials and contributing to the continuous improvement of technical documentation quality.


Responsibilities


  • Check grammar, spelling, formatting, and consistency across documents.



  • Evaluate the overall editorial quality and clarity of written deliverables.



  • Provide authors with constructive feedback on formatting, organization, writing style, and other editorial concerns.



  • Ensure documents:




    • Align with company policies and style guidelines.



    • Meet all client-specific requirements.



    • Include all required elements and visual components.



    • Present information clearly and effectively.



    • Are complete, well-organized, and easy to understand.



    • Include accurate contents, tables, figures, abbreviations, appendices, headers/footers, and page numbers.





  • Collaborate with other technical editors to schedule reviews and develop engaging materials to promote high-quality technical writing across the company.



  • Provide on-demand editing and formatting support to staff company-wide.




Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in English or a science-related field and a minimum of 2 years of technical editing experience;
    OR
    Associate's degree in English or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of technical editing experience.



  • Strong technical writing and editing skills, including the ability to identify and resolve clarity issues.



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).



  • Experience working with Word templates and built-in styles.



  • Proficiency with Adobe products, strong PDF compilation skills and preference for InDesign experience.



  • Experience supporting coauthoring efforts and document management in SharePoint.



  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.



  • Strong time management abilities and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively under deadlines.




Desired Qualifications


  • Experience editing technical documents in the environmental field, particularly those related to site investigation, characterization, and remediation.



  • Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards.



  • Candidates located on the West Coast are strongly preferred to support alignment with team schedules and client needs.

Pay Range
$70,000 $90,000 USD

The EA pay range for this position is intended as a general guideline and does not guarantee specific compensation or salary. Factors considered when making an offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, and compliance with federal and state laws.
