Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data. The Brastianos Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital is looking for a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time Research Technician position. The Brastianos Lab, part of the Brain Tumor Research Center at MGH, studies primary and metastatic brain tumors using in vitro and in vivo techniques, including animal models. Knowledge gained from these studies is translated into new targets for cancer therapy.
The technician will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between basic research and clinical application. This role involves coordinating and managing tissue collection, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the smooth progression of research from bedside to bench, and eventually, back to bedside. Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem)to provide degree equivalency verification. Essential Functions: -Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures. -Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines. -Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed. -Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results. -Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods. -Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports. Education Clinical Work: - Consent oncology patients to bio-banking studies - Facilitate communication and collaboration between laboratory researchers and clinical teams - Assist in the preparation and submission of necessary documents for regulatory approvals, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions Data Management: - Oversee data collection and management for translational research studies - Implement data security and confidentiality measures - Collect retrospective clinical data from patient's medical charts Wet Lab Techniques: - Process patient-derived samples and manage storage and tracking of these specimens - Perform DNA and RNA extractions from patient-derived samples and other molecular biology techniques (e.g., sectioning and staining tissue, immunohistochemistry, running BioAnalyzer and PicoGreen Assays) - Contribute to general lab maintenance (including ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies, quality control of equipment, reagents and cellular components, keeping lab spaces clean and organized) Collaboration and Communication: - Facilitate effective communication among team members and external collaborators. Education and Training: - Provide training and support to research staff on translational research methodologies, data collection procedures, and compliance standards Documentation and Reporting: - Maintain detailed records of research activities - Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for scientific conferences and publications The General Hospital Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
