This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.

As part of a professional, passionate, and accomplished team, this role will be integral to the continued quality of our construction projects as we push the limits of facility construction. You will contribute substantively to the team's impact on all aspects of building our infrastructure and world-class facilities. The Construction Field Inspector will be responsible for analyzing materials, examining techniques used and verifying that the structure follows industry standards and all state, federal and regulatory laws. This role will ensure that our construction conforms to specifications and codes by reviewing blueprints and monitoring contractors in all phases of work for compliance. You will be responsible for multiple assigned facilities projects within launch vehicle manufacturing, integration, test, launch site, and launch command and control centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily inspections of all phases of construction to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project timelines
  • Identify, document, and report any discrepancies, defects, or non-conformance issues to the project management team
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections and prepare reports for project stakeholders
  • Manage contractor QA/QC programs and regularly verify reports and compliance
  • Coordinate with quality assurance teams to implement corrective actions and ensure continuous improvement in construction practices
  • Oversee all contractors on site for general compliance. Prepare daily reports including description of contractor work activities, labor and equipment identification and quantity, and perform various measurements for payment
  • Perform field inspections and maintain inspection records for special materials or equipment identified by the project manager or field inspector as needing additional oversight
  • Verify contractor compliance with the required regulatory or 3rd party inspections
  • Provide inspections on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications on construction projects. Communicate with contractors, supervisors, and other inspectors regarding specifications and qualification test results and site progress. Maintain field notes and related documentation
  • Perform random spot inspections and quality assurance activities such as: design reviews, site inspections, testing and monitoring for compliance with specifications during construction for all disciplines
  • Initiates investigations of construction problems, and recommends solutions and corrections to achieve final acceptance
  • Provides field data, existing conditions, and recommendations to implement field changes and investigates claims of existing conditions or changes by contractors
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements, quality improvements, and operational cost savings
  • Report on project status against contract schedules and report compliance or variance to the project manager

Qualifications:

  • Prefer B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or Project Management
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in complex commercial facility construction and renovations
  • Minimum 5+ years as a field inspector, superintendent, or QA/QC role directly responsible for project quality assurance and inspections
  • Must be able to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, building code, NFPA, International Building Code, Fire Code, etc. as it pertains to new construction, renovations, remodeling, upgrades and modifications
  • Experience inspecting labor and material for all aspects of construction to include foundations, structural steel, MEP's, finishes, cranes, specialty equipment and more.
  • Ability to oversee the construction of multiple projects at once while clearly communicating project requirements and status up, down, and laterally throughout the organizations chain of leadership
  • Recent facility development experience supporting mission critical operations
  • Candidate shall be able to effectively manage change in a climate with rapidly evolving priorities
  • Must fully understand the project life-cycle from concept development and requirements gathering to project closeout and turnover
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and heights
  • Experience with site planning in a campus type environment
  • Experience with manufacturing or large industrial facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
  • NICET Certification/pending certification or NICET equivalent experience/education
  • State or National building inspector certifications
  • Familiarity with Procore, PM Web or other project management software
  • Strong business management foresight and experience collaborating with large, geographically dispersed programs with large subcontractors
