Job Summary

The Test Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of workers concerned with one or more of the following activities: testing electrical safety equipment, repairing power and hand tools, assembling ground and jumper sets, building rope assemblies, ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and shipping materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and repair parts in test lab or tool repair center by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Advise and instruct subordinates in all aspects of work and in the safe operation of the equipment and machinery necessary for this position.
  • Ensure adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor backlog, prioritizes orders, and expedites workflow as required.
  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
  • Review documentation for accuracy, legibility, completeness, and conformance to established procedures.
  • Advise employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems. Possess working knowledge of material involved in the position and their uses.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in safe and proper working condition. Resolve or advise manager of maintenance or operational issues.
  • Assist manager in evaluating inventory usage and makes recommendations to optimize inventory levels.
  • Research history of inventory items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
  • Study inventory history and recommend actions to eliminate non-usable, slow moving, and excess stock.
  • Determine disposition of used or damaged property and handles accordingly.
  • Analyze operational activities to identify inefficiencies. Assists in developing and implementing new and revised methods or procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Conduct training in safety and other topics as assigned by manager.
  • Assist manager in completing required facility safety inspections.
  • Ensure facilities meet established standards for safety and cleanliness.
  • Compile and prepare reports for management as requested.
  • Resolve customer complaints and questions and inventory problems presented by subordinate staff.
  • Monitor levels of operational supplies and take necessary action to ensure adequate stocks are maintained.
  • Issue written and oral instructions and Assist in the transmittal of administrative information, policies and procedures, decisions, changes, etc. to subordinates.


  • Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate, develop, and train new employees and review progress of subordinates periodically with Branch Manager. Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
  • Observe any non-employees in the warehouse environment in regard to their personal safety. Report any unauthorized person(s) to the Branch Manager.
  • Supervise the activities of subordinates.
  • Establish goals and objectives for assigned area to meet overall department goals; develop and implement new and revised methods or procedures to improve efficiency and help achieve goals.
  • Analyze operational issues to determine the most effective and efficient use of all resources.
  • Plan and schedule tasks over the short and long range to determine priorities and assign work.
  • Safely and properly operate all equipment in work area including testing equipment, air compressor, commercial washers and dryers, and pallet jack.
  • Clean and visually inspect customer material to identify defects or damage.
  • Perform dielectric testing of customer material.
  • Package customer material for shipment and complete required testing documentation.
  • Pull material on pick tickets; package and ship material to customers.
  • Assist walk-in customers with testing orders or purchasing merchandise.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to solve practical problems where only limited information and standardization exists.
  • Knowledge of test lab/tool repair center operations.
  • Knowledge of shipping/receiving practices, policies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of merchandise handling and production methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Four to five years related experience and/or training with one year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
