Overview

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., who is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy provides wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the U.S., with a total electric capacity of more than 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy is seeking a Lead Procurement Specialist to be based in their Charlotte, North Carolina, headquarters. Depending on qualifications, candidates may be offered a position of Associate Manager, Procurement within the position hierarchy.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Development Procurement, the successful candidate will be integral to establishing the strategic procurement function at Deriva Energy and be a key member of the supply chain leadership team. The successful candidate's mandate will involve building and maintaining a sourcing strategy and enhancing relationships with key vendors to support the business's needs for all equipment and services required for the businesses' project development and new construction. Additionally, this role will be responsible for overseeing the supplier selection, solicitation of proposals, negotiations and ensure agreements are in place with technical and commercial suppliers.

Key responsibilities include the sourcing, negotiation, and implementation of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) agreements, primary equipment procurement (wind turbines, solar equipment, etc.), major equipment procurement, and other procurement contracts supporting development (such as owner's engineering).

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Development, Construction, Operations, Legal, Tax and Finance teams on strategic procurement for utility-scale development and repower projects across various renewable technologies (Solar, Wind, BESS) throughout the United States

• Plan, organize, direct and control activities related to the strategic development procurement function

• Oversee the procurement process including contract negotiations to ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are applied and the best total cost of ownership is achieved and maintained

• Directly lead and oversee supplier RFP process for EPC services, major equipment procurement and primary equipment procurement, including collaborating with Brookfield global procurement on strategic sourcing

• Oversee the entire EPC bid and contracting process from RFP development through Contract Execution

• Ensure that the business receives appropriate procurement support in resolving contractual issues that may arise

• Develop a long-term procurement strategy that supports growth and develop and maintain strong relations with a network of EPC Contractors and key equipment providers across the United States

• Monitor team's performance, provide leadership, coaching and mentoring for direct reports and lead overall process management and performance management for the strategic development procurement team

• Stay current with market requirements, resources, pricing and trends to proactively identify supply chain risks and propose risk mitigation plans as well as provide accurate cost forecasting support to the development team

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply-chain, business administration or related field with 7 years' or more of work experience

• Associate's degree in engineering, supply-chain, business administration or related field with 9 years' or more of work experience

• In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND eleven (11) years or more years of related work experience

Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering, finance, accounting, business, legal, or related field with 5 years' or more of work experience

• Three (3) years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

• Strong understanding of the US energy markets, in particular a strong understanding of wind, solar, and battery storage technology and the EPC landscape.

• Experience with negotiating EPC, Major Equipment and Long-Term Services Agreements for utility-scale projects

• Deep working knowledge of the renewable energy market and vendor landscape, pricing, terms and trends

• Strong understanding of the commercial and technical needs of the renewable energy business such as liquidated damages, performances guarantees, warranties and payment securities as well as understanding of Investment Tax Credits (ITCs) and PTCs

• Strong analytical, strategic planning, risk management and organizational abilities

• A high level of interpersonal skills and ability to engage, communicate, and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels in the company
