*Job Title: *Patient Financial Counselor - Oncology Practice
*Location:* Onsite in Fresno, CA *Schedule: *Full-Time Hours Job Purpose The *Patient Financial Counselor* plays a critical role in ensuring access to medically necessary services by guiding patients through financial counseling, assistance programs, and payment options. This position supports patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and helps secure coverage through various assistance programs. Key Responsibilities * Execute daily financial counseling tasks, including: * Running daily schedules for consults and procedures * Verifying benefits (VOB) and preparing cost estimates * Collecting time-of-service payments * Assisting with financial assistance and Medi-Cal applications * Coordinating with early-out collections partners for payment plans * Monitor and collect outstanding patient balances * Apply for and track financial assistance and patient aid programs * Maximize financial support for patients based on coverage needs * Educate patients on insurance literacy and available assistance options * Conduct outreach campaigns during open enrollment periods * Initiate and manage charity care applications per policy * Collaborate with financial counselors, patient navigators, front office, and clinical staff * Meet monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and report to management Qualifications * Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical office setting with insurance and financial responsibilities * Working knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT codes * Strong communication, financial assessment, and advocacy skills * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel * Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience * Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed Work Environment * Professional office setting within a medical facility * Conservative business attire required (e.g., slacks and blouse) * Reports directly to the Patient Financial Manager * In-person presence required; hybrid flexibility may be available in the future Employee Value Proposition This organization is a large, multi-physician oncology practice with locations across the West Coast and plans for continued expansion.
