Statement of Purpose

Provides engineering support to the Engineering Group to develop and maintain efficient and effective production of quality products. Supports the products department in driving product development through coordination of the Engineering Department. Provides supplemental support to all Business Line Engineers as assigned. This position exists to support the Engineering Department in achieving their annual sales and Blind Work Year (BWY) goals. Assumes the duties of product engineers when assigned by Program Director when a team member is unable to perform their duties.

Education

Technical/Engineering Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be acceptable.

Training and Specialized Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills. Must have a good working knowledge of office practice and procedures and have thorough knowledge of computer and word processor operations, filing systems and report design. Be able to process and verify data supplied by the associated Nonprofit Agencies' (NPA) and serve as a resource when directed. Must be able to visualize the manufacturing process as described by the engineer or NPA contact. Must have time-study experience and participated in manufacturing support training.

Experience

Six to eight years' experience in administrative, data processing and database management activities with highly developed communication skills. Actual experience in manufacturing preferred. Must demonstrate initiative, self-assurance and be able to interpret, correct, verify, and distribute product development plans as guided by development engineers.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities



  • Exercises responsibility for proper form or format, accuracy of data input from Nonprofit Agency (NPA), spelling, grammar, and clarity of meaning regarding Product Development documents. Works with the Development Engineer proofing documents, verifying quotes and labor steps related to development plans and forms. Acts as intermediary between engineer and NPA when necessary.
  • Compiles, interprets, and prepares special reports as needed.
  • Acts as primary contact for NPA capability surveys, and tracks Engineering Reviews for Program Director Product Development.
  • Maintains documents on shared drive and ensures that project documents flow from product development plan through pricing. Monitors and conducts follow-ups with Pricing Support Team to keep all stakeholders current on project status.
  • Independently manages own responsibilities, including coordination with Engineering staff as well as NPA counterparts.
  • Establishes and maintains a running count on New Employment and Project counts for Products Department.
  • Provides support to all Engineering team members.
  • Ensures necessary final engineering documents are submitted by the NPAs on schedule for quarterly product launches. Collects and reviewsSafety Data Sheetsfor completeness, proper format, andadherence toFed Std 313 requirements.
  • Sets up conference calls and notifies relevant parties. Performs first and most important clerical review of the Project Development Plan after agency has submitted.
  • Verifies quotes, labor rates and reasonableness of the plan. Provides follow-up with Product Development Specialist (PDS) and pricing analyst to move package to the next phase.
  • Coordinate with appropriate product management staff members for item product descriptions and commercial product descriptions.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner regarding all assigned projects, reviews and comments on government specifications, commercial item descriptions, and other appropriate documents. Participates in and contributes to performance of assigned team.
  • Responsible for management of NPA Capabilities documents and files on a cloud-based storage system, ensuring that the information is readily available to NIB staff. Examines the capability reviews for completeness and format before documents are routed to the Program Director of Product Engineering.
  • Responsible for management and maintenance of NPA Capabilities Survey Database. Coordinates with agencies to update the database as needed, validate key elements from the survey, and to document updated data inputs in a timely manner. Drafts and publishes NIB wide announcements of approved changes made to the NPA capabilities survey. Provides training as needed to NIB staff on how to use and navigate the Oracle Analytics Cloud Service (OACS) report.
  • Conducts Engineering Review visits to NPAs as assigned by the Program Director of Product Engineering. Drafts Capability Reviews reports upon completion of Engineering Review. Assesses and comments on NPA Capabilities and provides written reports to the Program Director of Product Engineering in a timely manner.
  • Consults on grant applications.
  • Participates as member of the Internal Review and/or Source Selection Board teams as required throughout the Request for Proposal (RFP) project assignment process. Makes recommendations for NPA selection, based on review and analysis of RFP responses
