IP Optical Sales Engineer - Ribbon Communications

Overview:

Ribbon Communications is seeking an experienced IP Optical Sales Engineer to support its expansion in the IP Optical market space-not to be confused with eyewear optics. This role focuses on network infrastructure, IP/MPLS routing, packet transport, and optical networking solutions, working closely with account teams to develop business opportunities among US Regional/Rural

Service Providers and Datacenters.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead pre-sales activities, including network design, architecture development, and solution delivery for service providers.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in IP/MPLS, packet transport, and optical networking, helping customers understand Ribbon's solutions.

  • Promote Ribbon's unique business value in Rural Broadband Middle Mile and Mobile Backhaul for service providers.

  • Develop network solutions and strategies using Ribbon's and third-party products to meet customer requirements.

  • Provide regional pre-sales support for IP Optical product lines.

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Commercial, and Product Management teams to align technical solutions with business strategies.

  • Conduct technical presentations for prospective clients to drive business engagement.

  • Lead high- and low-level design activities, ensuring alignment with customer needs.

  • Coordinate customer lab trials and proofs of concept, demonstrating Ribbon's technology solutions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Proven experience in Sales Engineering (SE) or Product Line Management (PLM) within the Telecom industry.

  • Strong pre-sales experience in L1-L3 Network Engineering, focusing on Telecommunications.

  • Expertise in IP/MPLS network protocols, including:

    • IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, RSVP, LDP (FRR), QoS, Multicast-LU, BGP-LS/PCEP, Segment Routing

  • Understanding of network services: L2VPN, L3VPN, EVPN

  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers and communicate complex concepts effectively.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry certifications (Juniper, Cisco, etc.).

  • Experience in Mobile Networks (4G, 5G).

  • Knowledge of MPLS-TP, Carrier Ethernet solutions.

  • Hands-on experience with proof-of-concept trials and lab evaluations.

  • Familiarity with government broadband expansion programs.

  • Understanding of network automation and software-driven networking solutions.
