At GSK, we have bold ambitions for patients, aiming to positively impact the health of 2.5 billion people by the end of the decade. Our R&D focuses on discovering and delivering vaccines and medicines, combining our understanding of the immune system with cutting-edge technology to transform people's lives. GSK fosters a culture ambitious for patients, accountable for impact, and committed to doing the right thing, making sure that we focus our efforts on accelerating significant assets that meet patients' needs and have the highest probability of success. GSK has kicked off 2025 with impressive growth in sales, profits, and earnings. We anticipate five major new FDA product approvals and 15 phase III/pivotal study readouts over the next two years. So far, we have secured two FDA approvals, with three more expected later this year. By uniting science, technology, and talent, we are committed to getting ahead of disease together.

An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated, creative, and meticulous lab-based scientist with a track record in developing 3D in vitro models.

The candidate will join the Complex In Vitro Models (CIVM) group within Target Discovery department in GSK's research organization at the Upper Providence site in the United States. CIVM's mission is to improve predictive and translational value of preclinical models. We strive to improve models for translational relevance of new targets, mechanism of action, efficacy, safety and metabolism, aiming to assess these in the same systems whenever possible, and ultimately to use these systems to refine, reduce, and replace animal models. The CIVM group engages in dynamic, matrixed collaborative projects across therapeutic areas working closely with research units and technology platform groups.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and validating translational 3D In Vitro Models to support different phases of our drug discovery pipeline across Neuroscience.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Develop, optimize and apply advanced cellular models for mechanistic understanding and early profiling of drug candidates across brain related diseases.

  • Design and implement phenotypic assays for in vitro modelling of brain vascular-tissue-immune interactions.

  • Collaborate and support routine work in a matrix team and cross-functional environment to ensure optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard.

  • Write protocols, design and execute laboratory experiments, apply advanced data analysis, interpret data, compile reports, and communicate findings with an emphasis on providing appropriate context in order to progress projects and/or develop platforms.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD with 3+ years of post-doc and/or-job related experience, MS with 6+ years of experience, or BS with 9+ years of experience in Neuroscience, Bioengineering or related fields.

  • Prior work experience in development of 3D models, micro physiological systems, and bioprinting approaches for neuroscience applications

  • Experience in designing and performing deep characterization of in vitro models for in vivo relevance.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Deep knowledge of neuroscience focused on cell-cell interactions and signaling.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in design, development, optimization and deployment of in vitro models and assays to replicate healthy and diseased conditions of the brain.

  • Experience in developing 3D co-cultured cellular models and integrating novel technologies including electrical, mechanical, optical and magnetic based modality for real-time readouts.

  • Hands-on experience in 3D bioprinting of brain cell and organoids.

  • Fast learner with ability for multitasking and adapt rapidly to manage changing priorities and timelines.

  • Ability for clear, concise, and effective communication.
