Assistant Professor of Biology (Neurobiology)

The Department of Biology at Amherst College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of neurobiology with expertise in cellular and molecular neurobiology, to begin on July 1, 2026. We seek a colleague who is committed to teaching and scholarship in a liberal arts college, and who shows promise for establishing a high-quality research program that involves undergraduates. A Ph.D. is required, and postdoctoral experience is expected.

The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of four courses per academic year. These courses will include an advanced course in cellular or molecular neurobiology (with laboratory) and rotation through a team-taught introductory course in molecular and cellular biology. Additional teaching opportunities will depend on the candidate's interests and expertise. The candidate is also expected to mount an independent research program that involves undergraduate students, to supervise honors projects, and to contribute to the overall academic environment of the department and the college. Start-up funding, additional forms of institutional support, and a generous sabbatical leave policy are available. The position will contribute significantly to the college's Neuroscience Program, which brings together a collaborative group of faculty from the Departments of Biology and Psychology. The sciences are housed within the Amherst College science center, which has state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
