Position Summary

Airbus U.S. is looking for an enthusiastic and creative quality engineer to develop solutions for new satellite systems and their integration to space launch vehicles with a primary focus on electrical and thermal testing. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional quality engineering skills and strong experience in aerospace programs to the team.

As a Sr. Production Quality Engineer, you will work with quality inspectors and the operations team at the assembly line to accomplish high-volume satellite production. The Sr. Production Quality Engineer will also work with a cross-functional team (supply chain, engineering, production, and customers) to ensure the satellites are delivered with 100% compliancy. The main mission is to identify and resolve test non-conformances, conduct thorough investigations, determine the root cause(s) of test nonconformances, and implement corrective actions. You will be an integral member of the FAL Quality Engineering team, providing technical expertise and support for the development, testing, and debugging of satellite electrical subsystems. Your primary focus will be on nonconformance management of the integration, testing, and control of one, or various, subsystems including Electrical Power Systems (EPS), Data Handling Systems (DHS), Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS), Radio Frequency (RF) Systems, and the Test Environment.

Responsibilities




  • Facilitate and lead root cause investigations and definition of containment as well as corrective and preventive actions.
  • Validate repair instructions and facilitate execution of repairs.
  • Perform quality gate reviews to ensure finished satellites conform to design configuration and specifications.
  • Be a liaison for customers on production nonconformances through the MRB process and demonstrate professionalism in resolving customer concerns.
  • Demonstrate ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of quality, engineering, and integration activities.
  • Perform all the necessary quality engineering activities to build, to maintain and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products.
  • Promote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the heritage platform designs and manufacturing infrastructures in the pursuit of various constellation prospects.
  • Provide real-time support during system-level test activities, including anomaly resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Analyze test data to validate system performance and readiness.



Qualified Experience / Skills / Training

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
  • Preferred: Master's in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.



Experience:



  • A minimum of 5-7 years with a bachelor's degree, or 3 year with a master's degree.
  • Preferred: Proven track-record of working with aerospace hardware and/or software systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more subsystems: EPS, DHS, AOCS, RF, or test environments.
  • Proven track record in test script development and/or review and debugging in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with spacecraft system integration, verification, and testing.



Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:



  • Exposure to quality management systems AS9100, IATF-16949 or ISO-9001.
  • Understanding of or capability to utilize quality tools such as PFMEA, quality planning/control plans, statistical process control (SPC) techniques, root cause analysis and lean tools.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
  • Understanding of test management and configuration tools.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.



Travel Required:



  • Periodic travel (less than 10%) to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies.



Eligibility:



  • U.S. Citizenship.



Clearance:



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance highly desirable.



Physical Requirements:



  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
