The Program Director for the Lang Medical Scholars Program is responsible for the ongoing development and overall implementation of a six (6) year longitudinal health science engaging local middle and high school students who are in the medical field. Responsibilities include program development, curriculum development, budget development, execution, ongoing assessment, hiring and oversight of staff, student recruitment and support and monitoring of student progress.

The Program Director works in collaboration with the Medical Director of the program. The position will report to the Office of Health Equity Diversity and Inclusion (OHEDI) and will be accountable to Medical School leadership. The individual will work with offices of OHEDI and other Temple University stakeholders. The work schedule will include working two Saturdays each month.

Essential Functions of Position

Executes the six-year curriculum in collaboration with the Medical Director to increase the number of Philadelphia School District students who successfully complete health science related academic tracks and pursue a profession in healthcare.



  • Hires and oversees staff to implement the program including a program coordinator and educators who work directly with the students.
  • Trains and oversees the program coordinator and educators
  • Leads student recruitment presentations at participating schools
  • Develops marketing materials to promote staffing and student participation in conjunction with appropriate departments
  • Develops and oversees the program's budget
  • Supports individual students' abilities to participate in all aspects of the program to promote healthcare careers to students who are under-represented in medicine.
  • Implements evaluation strategies to monitor overall program performance and determines need for improvements in curricular elements, recruitment and performance of staff and student participation and outcome.
  • Coordinates activities with other organizations to ensure appropriate use of resources and capacity building for successful implementation of program or project
  • Serves as the liaison with partnering organizations who provide related programming as part of the curriculum including retreats, SAT/ACT preparation and other activities.
  • Serves as liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for consideration of undergraduate admissions after completion of program
  • Leads collaboration with partner organizations, non-governmental organization, local governments, etc. to implement programs
  • Maintains knowledge of and potential collaboration with similar programming at local institutions and organizations
  • Researches existing and potential development funding sources, government regulations and industry best practices as they apply
  • Manages grants and support donor stewardship efforts
  • Provides detailed status reports to leadership and administration
  • Develops and implements summer internship opportunities for participants in collaboration with the Medical Director


Experience and Education

Bachelor's Degree and three or more years of directly related experience. Prior significant management experience related to Student Services in secondary or higher education. Prior experience in program administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Familiarity with college admissions, community relations and diversity, equity and inclusion concept
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.


This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote).

This position requires a background check for routine interaction with minors.
