Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Medical Information and Medical Communications (SDMIMC) is a strategic leadership role responsible for directing all aspects of Pacira's Medical Information Service and Medical Communications. This individual is a member of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT) and contributes to the development and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy. The SDMIMC will oversee the development, execution, and management of communication strategies to support the company's products, healthcare professionals, and patients. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the therapeutic areas and scientific data, compliant Medical Affairs regulations, and strong business acumen to ensure high-quality, relevant, compliant, and responsive medical communications that meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. This position will oversee a diverse team, including internal staff and external vendors, ensuring compliance with medical information services and the development, review and approval of non-promotional communications related to Pacira's products and disease states. The SDMIMC collaborates with other leaders across the organization, including Commercial, Professional Education, Market Access, Compliance, and Clinical Affairs.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for MIMC that aligns with Medical Affairs' global objectives and considers corporate impact.
  • Ensures that Medical Information and Communications materials, processes, and platforms are aligned and optimized across Pacira teams.
  • Lead and oversee the Medical Information team, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant responses to medical inquiries and the creation of medical communications, HCP Education, and digital content.
  • Lead and oversee the Medical Communications team, ensuring scientifically accurate, educational materials are created and maintained for internal and external stakeholders, including digital content.
  • Provide Medical leadership and direction to the cross-functional PCRC, guiding the development, review, and approval of non-promotional content and ensuring that promotional content is medically accurate.
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including KOLs, medical societies, and external vendors as needed.
  • Ensure all medical information/communication materials adhere to industry regulations/standards, best practices, company policies, and maintain scientific integrity.
  • Responsible for development, maintenance and adherence to medical information SOPs, work instructions, quality assurance, and ensuring audit readiness.
  • The role requires a high degree of scientific competency and the ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams to successfully execute and support the scientific needs of the company.
  • Leverage insights from medical inquiries to inform medical strategy and medical content.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Compliance, Marketing, Professional Education, Sales, and Legal to ensure alignment and compliance of all medical communication activities.
  • Prepare and manage budgets related to medical information and communication activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Senior Director, Medical Information and Communications will supervise a team responsible for providing Medical Information and Medical Communications.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) with a minimum of 8 years' medical information/communications experience required in pharmaceutical/bioscience industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a team-based organization (>5 years).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of medical information operations, science, and regulations.
  • Leading-edge understanding of emerging and existing technology platforms and digital capabilities within Medical Affairs.
  • Experience in pain management is preferred.
  • Experience with managing vendors and business partners.
  • Experience working with safety databases and preparation and reporting of individual case safety reports and aggregate reports.
  • Experience with quality systems, establishing and tracking performance metrics, compliance monitoring, and development and maintenance of procedural documents and training programs.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional, multi-cultural teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the review of promotional materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in drug and device information and knowledge of applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in process-oriented function in pharmaceutical/bioscience industry.
  • Experience in developing new services and programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with a proven record of driving impact.
  • Global experience desired.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and travel as needed. When travelling, the employee will be required to move between spaces, reach with hands and arms and stoop. Close vision and the need to focus on computer screen, use of hands, fingers, and wrist to type on keyboard and manipulate mouse.

Work Environment:

The setting in the main office is a typical pharmaceutical office environment with offices and cubicles.
