Position SummaryWe are seeking a Research Assistant Professor to join a collaborative team from UNM, conducting research on ecosystem-atmosphere exchange of carbon, water and energy in semi-arid ecosystems. Our group operates a network of nine eddy covariance flux towers sites distributed across a 1500 m elevation gradient in New Mexico (New Mexico Elevation Gradient or NMEG) that has measured ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes and associated physiological processes continuously for 18 years. We are installing a new tower in a riparian cottonwood forest and are seeking a candidate to process fluxes from this tower and develop research questions that use this tower, previous datasets from riparian towers in the region and the NMEG that examine how fluxes and processes in these rapidly changing biomes are responding to disturbance and climate change. The successful candidate will work with PI Marcy Litvak (UNM), and collaborate with a number of PIs across the Sevilleta LTER. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, and demonstrate a record of experience and research productivity in one or more of the following areas: (i) EC flux tower or other land-surface flux datasets; (ii) physiological, ecosystem, ecohydrology, biometeorology or landscape ecology with an emphasis on analyzing large datasets; (iii) ecosystem modeling, particularly in water-limited environments. The position is available for one year initially, with possibility of 4 additional years of funding.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., at time of appointment, in Plant Physiological Ecology, Ecosystem Ecology, Earth System Science, Forest Hydrology, or a related field is preferred
  • Demonstrated programming expertise in Matlab, R and/or Python.
