Requisition ID req33488 Working Title Program Manager- Veterans Upward Bound Program (VUB) Position Grade 13 Position Summary The UNM-Taos Veterans Upward Bound Program invites applicants for a Full-Time term Program Manager. The Program Manager provides the overall supervision and administration for the Veterans Upward Bound Program (VUB). The Veterans Upward Bound Program is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic and other prerequisite skills necessary for success in a program of postsecondary education through pre-college instruction and preparation before transitioning to post-secondary institutions or new career paths. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas to include computer skills. The VUB program is designed to provide academic, veteran benefit, and career support to 125 eligible veterans with the goal of eventual enrollment in, and completion of, a certification, license, or college/university degree. The NMVUB program manager position is both a challenging and rewarding opportunity to support New Mexico military service veterans. There are many moving parts and you will never be bored. This unique federal grant program offers tremendous opportunities for professional development, developing leadership and managerial skills, and expanding community networks to support veterans in eight northern New Mexico Counties. It is based in beautiful Taos at the UNM Taos, Klauer campus, but has established relationships with partner schools to include Dine College, Central New Mexico Community College, San Juan College, Santa Fe Community College, Northern New Mexico College, New Mexico Highlands University, Navajo Technical University, and UNM Gallup. New Mexico Veterans Upward Bound has a strong veteran agency/organization and non-profit network that collaborates on providing veterans with services and resources to help them reach their goals. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be a team player, have excellent collaborative skills, the desire to see others succeed, a self-starter, highly organized, flexible, and have the ability to roll with the punches. The skills to manage a diverse team of remotely located associates. Occasional travel within the NMVUB service area (Bernalillo, Colfax, McKinley, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Juan, Santa Fe and Taos counties) as well as some out-of-state travel is required. Excellent computer skills are also preferred for designing, drafting, and publishing posters, brochures, flyers, and newsletters. Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree 2. Experience in a supervisory role providing services in a rural area in multiple remote sites 3. Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment 4. Experience with fiscal management, program development and evaluation, data collection, submitting reporting in compliance with a funding agency/grant requirement's 5. Knowledgeable of pre-college educational needs of students particularly veterans. 6. Knowledge of UNM Contract &Grants, Purchasing requirements and Banner software applications. 7. Experience interpreting and implementing federal legislation and grant regulations to ensure program compliance 8. Bilingual: Spanish and English 9.
